First off, sorry for the Wannabe-intrusion. I had just figured since I have an artillery question, I might as well go straight to the source. So if you don't want to answer this, that's cool.
Anyway, I've just selected Artillery for my MOS. I know that deployment is inevitable, so I was wondering what place Artillery has in Iraq right now. From my knowledge, or lack thereof, of the war in Iraq, the fighting is going on in an urban setting. So I can't really picture a bunch of Artillery dudes just bombing away on all the neighborhoods, with civilians all around.
So basically, what is Artillery doing in Iraq right now?

Military Police/CAG and every other frikken thing that needs to get done.
he may never read this post again. but as an arty bubba now. we deployed to iraq as a MP company. basically 7 months of patroling the syrian border. some of the worst times of life yet still fun....sometimes...
We had some arty attached to us in Iraq. Most of them got put on guard while the rest shot illum all night. When my battallion went on a huge field op they came too. They coiled up, set their **** up, and sat around all day waiting for dark to cover us with illum. The two guys I talked to later on hated their lives, but they were stuck on guard for most of the deployment, which can happen to any mos.
