Retired from Navy 1972, began paying SBP premiums, worked for the USPS from 1972 til 1990. Combined Navy and USPS service time in 1990 and began paying survivor benefits premiums, and have continued since then. I am age 72. Do I qualify for SBP premium paid up status?

It seems to me that the law for "SBP open enrollment" is poorly written and benefits few. My parents purchased the SBP during the last open enrollment and because my dad passed away 5 months shy of his two-year wait, my mother will not receive the benefit. They paid the premium in full and now my mom is being told her refund will be taxed!!! What a joke! To top it off, my dad's death was combat service related. So much for honoring our Veterans!
