what would you expect from the big liberal colleges.they hate the military and any soldier would have a hard time there because of the indoctrination that goes on by the professors. and you notice the more money the govt gives for college both mil and civ the higher the annual costs get.talk about your govt welfare.if colleges had a free market system in place the costs would go down across the board.i love public education!

Shame on those schools!! By the way vets, I'm not sure Illinois finalized the deal but they were looking at waving the four year degree for vets to be hired by Illinois State Police.

Thanks again for your couragious and generous service to our country!!

Those vets risk their lives and one of their benefits is education which a lot of states will not even give. http://tinyurl.com/bbqa7h This is kind of sad.

This post proceeds from a preposterous premise. First of all, ALL state colleges are Liberal Arts colleges (which means absolutely NOTHING politically). This isn't about them, for the most part they are more than willing to sign-on to the program. It s mostly the PRIVATE (aka: expensive)colleges have refused to support Veterans by participating in this program.

In other words, it is NOT the Public/State Colleges, it is the PRIVATE colleges who have refused to play.

It doesn't take a college education to understand that, but it does take an education - of some sort.

It is obvious that the left is running our country and they have no use for the Armed Forces. Wait till they have someone knock on their door to take them away. Liberal trash. I say no fees for veterans that qualify for college, any college.

The US Government hands out all of these special benefits while with the same hand taking away from career military men from Vietnam their old GI Bill benefits while they were still on active duty and stopping the old GI Bill as of December 1989 which denied over 34,000 career military active duty members their educational benefits promised to them after drafting many of them that remained on active duty all those years. SHAME SHAME AMERICA. DASTARDLY DEEDS UNDONE. THOSE THAT EARNED AND DESERVED THOSE BENEFITS WERE KICKED IN THE TEETH AND NO ONE CARES...RIGHT ON AMERICA

Has anyone actually looked at the list of colleges deciding not to participate in the program? To say it is all liberal colleges who have decided not to participate could be in error. Perhaps there are conservative based colleges who are refusing also.

As far as the trash about colleges hating the military, well, that's what it is, trash talk. I attended three colleges during my education and found left and right fairly well represented by the school staff. I think the reason you see protests from college students, which by the way, are very rare today, is because at a young age, we are idealistic by nature and temperment...nothing new about that. Hell, you can go back to ancient Greece and the youth for the most part were rebels. Over time, age will produce wisdom. If such were not the case, we wouldn't have a college population of graduates who eventually become conservative or liberal in their philosophy.

As far as colleges go, they are a place for education, a place that provides the tools for a person to make educated decisions about their lives. War is anathema on a college campus, consequently we see schools disparage military recruiting at their facilities. I do not believe it is because certain groups of schools hate the military, it is due to the philososphy a campus should be one of peace, education, study, contemplation, which is as it should be. Attempting to present a philosophy of war by recruiting at colleges just doesn't fit in with what an education should consist of. Colleges expect their graduates to live long, productive and healthy lives once a person graduates...the military doesn't provide such a philosophy as lives can be cut short once in uniform.

As far as the new GI Bill, one can see it is fraught with problems. The program should have been made easy...the new Bill pays for attending any college of choice by a veteran and all veterans receive a stipend every month for living expenses. It is what they did for WW 2 and Korean veterans. Instead, our brainy, educated Congress produces a complicated and confusing Bill that will cost millions just to administed...money that should have gone to veterans education and not the absurd cost of running the program.

In some ways I can understand why the smaller private Colleges will not be part of the yellow ribbon program. They have limited space for student and need the money to stay open. Unlike public Colleges that get money from the State. I do think they could allow a small amount in.
