Hmmmm, lets see. Sounds like a retention bonus plan to me. Here's how it works....You come to work for us and at the conclusion of your years of dedicated service, we will gladly bend you over. And after all of those years working in obscure, sometimes never heard of crap-holes, you can come home to a bunch of military hating socialists and get raked over the coals again (only this time it's for the rest of your life). What is the average life expectancy of retired military members????? Do I hear 20 years? Guess what? Robert Gates, Barack Obama, Nancy Peloser, Hairless Reid and the rest of those Marxist-Socialist-Facist cork lickers and kiss my fanny purpendicular. My son told me he wanted to join the military and keep the family tradition alive. I told him if he felt the need, then do so. However, look around at the way the retirees are treated and ask yourself if that's the way you want to spend the rest (however long that is) life putting up with the B.S. associated with it. "Support Our Military" sure sounds good, but W-T-F over?

I am just sick of this! Reenlisted in Navy in the 50's due to a huge emphasis on free health care for life...then when I retired in the 70's was told 'they were just kidding'. Too late to change mind then. Champus came and went. Finally, TriCare for Life was implemented. Since they it has been under attack and benefits cut. Now they want to rescind it or reduct its benefits greatly. I am now in my 70's and too old to do anything about the lies, etc., but wish to tell all young warriors considering making the military a career, be very careful and if you do this for promises, I would rethink it. If you wish to reenlist for patriotic reasons, etc., then I encourage you to do so, but do not do it for promises of what you will get 20-30 years down the road. Will not happen. We can give millions to foreign countries, build road, etc., in foreign countries, but cannot find the money to fund retiree's health care. I am not too old to fight this. If only I could relive the 50's...things would change. After serving many years, it is the hope of the powers that military retirees just hurry and die! We are just too few to have any power and we are continually dying off...

quote: No increases since 95 and you feel like you are getting screwed? Welcome to the real world. Health care costs have increased a ton in the last 14 years. Just because you served the 20 years doesn't mean that you deserve to keep your benefit costs at the same as they were that long ago. After 20 years are you saying that you haven't gotten another job and are earning a income?
You must be a troll, because you can't possibly be as stupid as you sound. When we joined the military, we were promised FREE healthcare for life. So ANY charge, even if it was 1 dollar a year, would be reigning on the promises made to us. So YES, we are being screwed.

Gates and all the Capital cronies should be fired. I gave 24 of Air Force service and it was implied the whole time I would get free health care...Now, I have to pay and they want more and they give money away to third world countries that done even like us...Vote all the crooks out of Washington DC

quote: Let DOD increase the TRICARE rates twice the rate that the retiree pay raise was this year. Than no more than the rate of the pay raise each year following.
Support Congressman Edwards HR 816. By the way, it is a 400% increase not 200% increase. The administration could have taken care of the shortfall by cutting 1 F-35. No, we who are chattel are meant to continue our sacrifice. Thought Gates was a straight-up guy, he needs to get a clue on this one.
