The original fees that they were recommended for retired military over 65, Tricare for Life, would have been so high, I would have to give up that program and gone the way of an HMO. Also, those of us that were in the military prior to 1957 were supposed to have free medical for life, but the Supreme Court told us that Congress had to authorized that - that has never happened - they can't get that out of committee. Pretty sad state - hopefully, Congress will put the no raise unless approved by Congress into effect. Is Dr. Chu still in DOD lobbying for these fees? - if so, he should be fired.

First of all to the person who make the comment about "Over Paid Government Empolyee's" You don't know jack mister and I'll tell you that to your face.
Do you know what a GS-1 makes? I bet you don't, go check the pay chart. I'm retire Armed Forces and Government Empolyee. And I can assure you that my military retirement is more then my DOD Fed retirement. Now days under the FERS retirement, you get 1% times the number of yrs you have been in the DOD Fed government, then a small supplement of S.S. until you reach the age of 62, then you recieved the rest of your S.S.. I retired out of the Armed Forces as a CWO with 38.6 yrs (for pay)and the Feds with 20 and I had to buy that. So my Fed retirement is 20%. I was a GS-12, Step 7 (repectable grade)but for the amount of work that I did, that salary should have been double. I had at least 6 different jobs do be done and not one of them slack off. I would fly out to the Pentagon at 0500 and be back at home around 2200 hrs, no over time, no comp time, no nothing, but be there at work the next day. And that was just one of my jobs, you ought to have seen the others and that job was suppose to done by a GS-15 and the instructions said so...But since I was the "subject matter expert" away I went escorted by my boss who was a GS-14. Now there are people in the government that are just like people out there in the civilian world, they are slackers...you find them ever where..So don't hang your hat on government empolyee's, maybe those in the Congress and Senate who have a 3 day work week but not your avg government employee, it was and still is 5 days, 40 hrs a week and all the rest they can get out of you. Except in a civilian job they have to pay you over time unless you are on salary, then its all they can get, just like the government. Now as far as the subject matter: You all remember Clinton? You know the one who took the military retirements benefits away!!! Remember him? He is also the one who's intell was so bad it lead to 9/11 and running his mouth about Iraq having WMD's therefore leading us into Iraq. Yea, some of you alls hero, there..He is the one who screw the military out of their health care active, guard, reserve and retired. Just how in the hell do you think he balance the budget? DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By screwing you and you and me, thats how...and now here we go again....You all voted for these idiots in office so if I were you, I wouldn't say a word. Remember all those Democrats promise's? Huh do you remember them? Well guess what? You have been lied to AGAIN. I made this one up...How many liberals does it take to change a light bulb? None!!! they sucker 10 democrats to do it for them!!!! No new taxs remember that? Well smokes went up how much? 3 times over...and just for your info, there was a study just done that shows it COSTS more on health care for NON-SMOKERS then it does Smokers..and I know you are saying B.S. right. Well the smoker dies on the avg 10 yrs before a non-smoker does, therefor the non-smoker requires more health costs. So you all just got screwed again.............. And now the states are jacking up everything with tax's, then the Feds will follow very shortly, they have no choice, remember all those bail outs with OUR money? remember them? Well guess what, we are going to pay it back not the bail outs, crap so far Obama's crew won't even allow anyone to pay anything back even if they have it!!! Now you go figure that one out! You who voted for him and his crew, you have no voice here...You should not complain one bit. Be like CNN and blame it on Fox News!!!! hahahahahahahahahahahaha...so funny.... Via la Tea Party!!!!!! I know I will have Homeland security taping my phone lines now and reading my email and following me around....And you all thought Bush was bad!!! hahahahahahahahaha.....This crew makes Bush look like a rookie... |

What is it with dod chief gates. Eeverytime you turn around he wants to cut the navy/air force and the army programs. now he wants to increase tricare fees for retired military under 62. As a Retired E-5 from the navy every 90 days I have to pay the tricare fee. but when I came in back in 1971 I was told that if I stayed in for 20 or maore years then I would have free medical and dental care. well by the time I retired in 1993 that changed. then in 1995 they started tricare prime. it amazes me that every time we have a new DOD Chief they always go after the retired military under 62. when is this going stop. the way I see it every one of us who have retired after 20 years have paid our dues and then some. I spent 13 months in Nam right out of radioman school. I dedicated my self to the navy in the notion that once I retired my wife and I would be taken care of. when will this stop why is the new dod chief trying to stick it to all of us military retiree's. it seems every time a new dod chief gets in there first thing is to try and stick to all of us military retiree's. I want everyone that spent over 20 years in the military to support H.R. 816 stop the increase in Tricare fee's.

Yes, TRICARE maybe is eating the DOD budget up with all the cost increases. If you would increase our retirement pay accordingly or give us the same setup that our senators and congressman have then you wouldn't hear us complain about the service were getting out here in the real world. If you would have honored the enlistment contracts like I had in 1963 when I first enlisted, you wouldn't be hearing from me now. But you didn't! We gave a lot to defend this great country of ours, and all you and Congress want to do is gripe about how much it's costing the government. Remember we pay taxes too, people. And we still have to pay for our TRICARE service.
I will pray for you, so you don't loose your medical freedom. |

Same old crap! I remember when I first enlisted, way back in 69, all the promises made about the health care benefit upon retiring. Ha! Boy, they blew smoke up my ass. Freakin congress can go to hell with their AIG bale-outs and "stimulus package" and Gates can kiss my butt! They keep it up and they will find that they will no longer have a military; who wants to serve, get injured and then have to pay out of their own pocket for the health care? This is nothing more then a backdoor insertion of the thing Obama wanted to do to the veteran and by billing their health insurance for their medical care for injuries. They are all snakes in the grass!!

You hit it on the freakin head!!! These guys are going to take us for everything they can get. They are going to suck every last cent out of the veteran's pocket, promises or not, at the same time they will be sucking the cash from the middle class to pay for the cost of their grand schemes and they will smile while they are doing it. FYI, I am retired Army National Guard and work Civil Service; I, too, work hard for my pay which is good but does not compare to the civilian world. I am proud of my work and anyone who says the federal employee is over paid and under worked does not know what they are talking about. Just to let you know how ignorant they are, had a friend who asked me if I paid federal income taxes! He thought since I was working for the government that we didn't have to pay taxes...Ha! |

If they want to find a way to create additional funds for veteran healthcare, they should start with the VA Hospitals. Why can a person who served two years in the military and got out with a Bad Conduct Discharge with no service connected injuries use this system? VA hospitals were designed for the service connected disabled veterans. This concurrent crap on retirement pay and disablity compensation cost me $200,000 before they started allowing 100 percent disabled to receive both. Yet these non-service connected veterans complain about an annual $250 deductible and a co-pay on their prescriptions. They won't find such a deal on the outside. What are our politicians paying for their healthcare? Then they tell us we won't be seeing a Cost of Living Allowance for at least three years. But then, of course, the politicians will continue to vote on their own pay raise every session. Where is the common decency on this?

I agree that for an individual who will be recieving money AND benefits for the rest of HIS life, Gates has one HELL OF A NERVE. I wonder if he is making ends meet right now and will be in his retirement...LMAO.
I have an Idea. Take the percentage differential between my retirement and his, apply that percentage mutiplier to what my benefits cost increase is and see if you pass an increase in congress members and their families costs for health care by that equal percentage. Think it will pass? But then again THEIR F*&in costs come from a different budget not controlled by this numbnuts. I suppose that budget comes from some other country, right? Dumba** |

How many of you guys remember when all you had to do was go to the nearest hospital see a doctor and show your ID card and have nothing to worry about. Then Came the 50 mile rule that if a military installation was that close you had to go to it. Then the 25 mile rule. Then Champus and now Tricare and now a raise to tricare co-pay. What the he11 next it will be you have to pay half the cost and all of you meds.

No increases since 95 and you feel like you are getting screwed? Welcome to the real world. Health care costs have increased a ton in the last 14 years. Just because you served the 20 years doesn't mean that you deserve to keep your benefit costs at the same as they were that long ago. After 20 years are you saying that you haven't gotten another job and are earning a income?

how can gates say this is an area where retirees are not used to complaining. Is he deaf. we were promised "FREE" health car when we joined and now we are paying for it. we have been complaining for almost twenty years. if i spent 20 years in the military i would be provided free health care. and hell i have been paying for it since a year after i got out. 1991 they made us all pay for it. I feel insulted to the core. i have been complaining that i have to pay for heath care it is just nobosy is listening. FOOL.

I knew Tricare rate fees would increase. It was just a matter of time. What with the trillions of dollars being offered for questionable projects. Pay my now non-existent Tricare fees for me if these pork projects meant for Senator and Representative pocket linings continue. Dadgumit!

In 1963, before the "Great Society", retirees were promiased free medical care for life. Now I am paying into Medicare for my Tricare benefits, never mind the co-pays and minimums that have to be reached before payments kickin. Some of the meds I take must have about six layers of approval before I can get them and I am only talking about high tech anteacids such as Prevacid. Now they want to raise the fees some more. Do the right thing and provide us with what was promised: FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR LIFE!!!!

As a Vietnam Vet from the seventies, I am again asked to pay for the "earned" benefit of being retired for my medical care. The re-up promise of the military taking care of you for your service to country again goes the way of "it's costing the DoD more to take care of its retirees who have a second job!" Do you think living on half pay, supporting a family and having to pay more for each medical service is easy for us retirees. It's freaking easy to talk about that when you six figures and get all the bennies when you're the SecDef or a member of Congress for FREE! TIRCARE Prime costs me 35 dollars per month for medical care without the cost share payments and if I or my dependents need glasses, dental or "other specialized" medical care it costs more. Bite me Mr.Gates! Your were once Director of the CIA and now the SecDef, how much does your medical care costswhen you go to Walter Reed AMC?
