I can't see how this is safe. He might have been a great soldier, but his disabilities are going to put him and his buddies lives at risk!

He should be retired on a medical disability; People with less injury have been during peace time. I applaud him for having a great attitude, but I pray that his disability doesn't limit him in a way that causes him or someone esle injury while he is there. I hope that the doctors and commanders come to their senses and let this brave young man get on with the next phaze of his life.

This soldiers done his duty. He paid for it the hard way. He needs to be sent home and get back on with his life. Let's send the doctor who "cleared" him for duty. Maybe he will start being more of a doctor than a recruiter.
Too many idiots in the military as it is.

The leadership has there head up there four points of contact. He may hurt his unit if things get bad. He has paid a price and should be retired or reclassfied if he wants and can do the new job. God Bless him. COC needs to be looked at. I would hope the CSM would have the BALLS to get involved. CSM Ruley

Is the the US Army 2008 or the German Whermacht in Russia 1944? As someone else posted, the Bn CSM should take matters into his his hands and see he has an non-combatant job ASAP. What really need to happen is let this kid retire medically.
If that is not possible, Keep him stateside and re-classify him and still get a 'full enlistment'

He does not need to be put back on the line.

I feel for this guy. I thought I was the only one in this type of situation...lol. I am sorta in the same boat. I have a brain injury, screwed up spine and neck, arthritis in both shoulders, and had surgery on both my feet from a fall and the Army is trying to recall me back to duty. I am currently receiving 100% disability from the VA and the army is aware of this. I had my congressman get me out of the first set of oders I received. A week later I received another set of orders stating I need to be at Ft. Benning for Infantry retraining. This is such a joke. The sad thing is I have friends that I served with that have no injuries or limitations and they have not received any orders for deployment. Makes me wonder what the hell I signed up for. I suppose they can put me in a wheelchair and have my battle buddy carry my gear into battle. A wheelchair with tracks just might work...lol. BTW: I am not in a wheelchair but I can't run due to medel pins and bridges in my feet. Well any way God Bless the troops and all who have served!

Would some one PLEASE explain to me why being in Iraq is defending our country.

I understand following orders, I don't understand this action.

I agree let the soldier either be reclassed or medically retired. Just think, his disabilities will cause him to be at risk and/or put his buddies at risk. What will happen if he needs to pull his buddy out of harms way? With his limitations will he be able to pull, carry or drag a grown man/woman to safety? Can he still fire a weapon? What if his headaches become a hindrance to him performing at his best while on patrol? Sometimes I think those persons in charge (doctors, politicians, leaders) need to see first hand what happens in the life of a Soldier, Marine, Airman, etc in order to provide better service and support. Street or Combat knowledge or experience is better than book knowledge.

This is utterly outrageous. Once again, the Army bends over backward to: 1. hose a soldier; and 2. make themselves look like idiots.

I predict that saner heads will prevail, and that the soldier will eventually be medically retired (as he should be). However, this will only happen after lengthy reviews and numerous delays.

I should know: the Navy screwed with me for FOUR LONG YEARS before finally agreeing that I should be medically retired.
