From what I can tell you at this moment, since the regristration office where I am at isn't open (it's 7pm) all I can tell you is to call the base where you were born and ask for the birth registration office and then ask them where to get another copy and how much it will cost.

Where were you born at??

The following information will help you with that. If you were born to a US citizen parent(s) and your parent(s) registered your birth at a US Embassy or Consulate in the form of a Consular Report of Birth (Form FS-240), and you would like evidence of your birth and US Citizenship, submit a request which includes the following: 1) Subject's full name at birth, date, and country of birth 2) Parents' full names, including mother's maiden name, and their dates and places of birth, and nationality 3) Daytime phone number 4) Signature of subject or parents 5) $30 fee per document. Send check or money order in US funds made payable to Department of State Mail Requests to: Passport Services Correspondence Branch Suite 510 1111 19th Street NW Washington, DC 20522-1705 If your parents did not register your birth it is suggested you apply to a US Passport Agency for a US Passport or INS for a Certificate of Citizenship to document citizenship. If you submit satisfactory documentary proof that you acquired citizenship at birth, a Certificate of Citizenship will be issuedin the subject's name. Look in the phone book under US Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service. A US Passport is also proof of US Citizenship.

has that been updated mom? I just filed for my sons, and they said for an extra copy that it was now $30. Not sure what it was before hand. I also have to apply for a second one somewhere else and my guess is that it's through what you provided.

I have a friend who is tring to obtain his birth certificate but has been getting the wrong information. He was born on an Army base in Germany. He has his nationalization papers and passport from 1965. Is this good enough to cross into Mexico and come back into the US.?

Wait, you can get an extra copy?????

Really??? because that would be great. I was always under the belief that you could have only one copy and that you could only get another one if you could prove the first copy was lost or destroyed (not sure how you prove that, but anyway....).

My daughter was born overseas and we treat her consular report of birth abroad like gold. If I have to take it anywhere, like school registration, I drive there, show it, and go directly home to put it back in the fire safe. My boys all have 3 or 4 copies each of their stateside birth certificates. If I could get a backup copy of hers I'd feel better.

I am going to have to look into it. And the price seems to have gone down - I am pretty sure my paperwork from 2002 said a replacement was $40.
