I believe as members of the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, we should take pride in our posts. I'm just saying, we should use some punctuaion and grammar. I've checked, and most posts look like garbage. I mean no offence, but please clean it up.

I cannot agree with you more. The way you express yourself with the written word is a direct reflection of your military bearing and level of professionalism.

I beg to differ, in part.

There aren't many outfits that will judge your professionalism based on your grammar, lack of typos, and punctuation on a Unofficial posting site.

Maybe if your memos look like trash, but on military.com....I wouldn't worry about it.

I would agree with the first guy, and Mr. Oram. If you don't at least attempt to use proper grammar you just look uneducated and that's a very undesirable way of being described on the internet especially were most people on forums are somewhat educated. It's not like your texting your friends.

I got the impression that ScottOram was being sarcastic, but either away I agree with the topic-starter. I mean if you want to talk like you're having trouble passing 2nd grade then go ahead, but don't get mad when I assume you have an IQ lower than your shoe size.

No sarcasm intended.

I agree with Scott, however, while I try to make an error-free post, I find I have typos, even after proofreading. One reason is the fatigue factor reading a screen vs. paper. Another is that most naturally don't put the effort into an informal post as opposed to a formal letter. In the latter, I proofread on a printed copy. I wish I had a dime for every error I see on formal letters in the military, Sea Cadets, or even the printed media (That doesn't make it right of course.) If a post has a few minor errors, I think it is nitpicking to critique it but if a person has a lot of spelling and grammar errors, it should be courteously be pointed out. For one thing, this forum does show spelling errors with a red underline. Please take advantage of that tool. Keep this in mind, however, don't prejudge a person by his writing, grammar or spelling errors. I have a friend who I think is one of the best officers in the Sea Cadet program, but his spelling and grammar leave a lot to be desired!
