I'm in the process of taking the observer test. I failed the first two go arounds. Not very happy about! Seems to me that there are some questions that I can't reference. What was your experience when taking the exam???

It's been a long time since I took those tests. Hopefully, they have been updated by now. Are there specific areas that are giving you trouble -- or areas of reference you might need assistance?

I'll try to help if you can be more specific.

In theory all of the questions come out of the OpsPolMan. However, you might want to look at the Air Ops page and see if your problem topics are covered in the documents under "Aviation Topics" in the left hand menu.

The problem may be that the current references don't match up with the test questions... At least they didn't a couple of years ago -- made it difficult to "pass" even though your answers may be "correct" based upon what is in the current policy & procedure manuals...

And the question is - what is the current manual for testing?

According to Auxiliary Training Course Documentation – Current Revisions the correct training manual is:

2008 M16798.5B, Rev 04/05 AUX Aviation Training Manual

Note the last part of the manual number "B" and the year "05". At least when I was in the program the actual training manual in use was lettered "C" or "D". However, the Commandant had never approved those manuals. And only an approved manual can be the basis for a test so the older "B" manual is what must be studied for the test.

I have no answer for why the Aux cannot or will not get the newer manuals approved or why after failing to get approval it still insists on teaching what is in fact unapproved policy while it tests for the approved policy from the older manual.

Auxiliary Aviation Training Manual "B" Version

Also the PDF of the sectional provided was (and perhaps still is) essentially unreadable, we've provided a better one to our local trainees - send me a message ans I'll forward the one we now use.
