Oh yikes, a max of two inches for women? If that applies to the Auxies, I'll be in for it, unless I shave my head twice a month. Not something that DH would be wild about.

Is the long-sleeved shirt mentioned in item 3(o)the long sleeved tropical shirt or the long-sleeved white shirt, or both. Previous SOP was that the tropical shirt was to be worn with a tie, nametag, shoulder boards and ribbons when in substitution for the short-sleeved tropical shirt in "long" and nametag and collar devices in "short". Some people wear long sleeves to alleviate the risk of further skin cancer.
Or does it just mean "when worn under SDB". Good grief, something else for the uniform Nazis to quibble about.  |

I guess we're never supposed to remove our coat when in the Service Dress Blue (Bravo) uniform. To make things a bit more confusing, the Uniform Procurement Guide differs from the AUXMAN regarding the Undress Blue--Winter uniform. The AUXMAN specifies metal collar devices on the long or shirt sleeve shirt (along with name tag and qualification devices but no ribbons), whereas the Procurement Guide calls for shoulder boards. Our DIRAUX has ruled that we should follow the AUXMAN and wear the collar devices.

Just the opposite here, shoulder boards are de rigeur for just about everything in tropicals, along, of course, with all the ribbons, badges, devices and stuff. Personally I think shoulder boards are more appropriate to bus drivers, airplane pilots, hotel doormen, South American dictators and Tijuana cops.

M. GIG LINE MODIFICATIONS.
??? Are you questioning what a gig line is or what the proposed and defeated mods were? I can't help with the latter but the former is:
The first time I saw the phrase I did a WTF and then looked up the definition. Off hand, I don't know if the AuxMan specifies the gig line for any uni. You might have to go to the CG Uniform Manual to find it. I think it even varies across uniforms. |

I can't figure out how they proposed to modify the gig line... What, were they going to make people wear their shirts backwards and their belts pulled to the side?

The only thing I can think of related to the gig line is the alignment of the belt buckle with the rest of the line.
If I remeber correctly, the gig line for the ODU has the right edge of the buckle as the "line". Personally, I find that makes the buckle look off center. Maybe the proposal was to center the buckle. I think the gig line for trops and the silver buckle has the buckle centered - at least most members seem to wear it that way. |

Didn't get any hits running a search for "gig" in the AUXMAN. Guess we have more important uniform issues to be concerned about.

I found the alignment in the CG Uni Regs COMDTINST M1020.6E page 3-38
FW ain't gonna like this - the gig line differs between men and women.
The black belt buckle (same page) is worn gigged the same way for men and women. However, the amount of the belt that sticks out differs from the brass (silver for Aux) buckle.

I think whoever wrote the description for men must have been looking down at the time, therefore confusing right and left; it's wrong according to every military convention. The left side of the buckle goes along the shirt and trouser opening, otherwise it isn't in the middle of the wearer's body.
However, just because it's probably a typo doesn't mean that some fool will make a cause celebre out of it |

There's both a slide show and a video at the Uniform Distribution Center web site (at the Downloads link) showing the correct belt buckle placement for the ODU.
I sure hope if I ever go under the knife that the surgeon doesn't have any left/right confusion! |

I know what a gig line is. So does any civilian who has seen the right military comedies. my "???" was what modifications could they possibly be considering? |

They probably got tired of seeing Auxies with their buckles under their armpits and decided to be reiterative, then screwed it up.
As I said above, now that it's been memorialized in the King's Own English pretty soon we'll all have to wear our dress buckles in the wrong place just so whomever writes this drivel won't have to change it. |

All this GIG line stuff is of no concern to me. My stomach covers the belt buckel at all times. As a matter of fact it covers almost all of the fly too.

I realized while I was putting on my uniform belt last night that I am an idiot, the ruling is right and I'm upside down. The difference is that the women's uniform has the shirt. and possibly, trouser openings facing the other way. I've always wondered why this is. Forewatch! Front and center, enlighten us lower gendered, please |
