Recently got appointed to a Division Staff office, it was a mid year appointment. The previous Staff officer maintains that until I am listed "with the Coast Guard in the Dirux system " I am not officially the Division Staff officer.

Have been sworn into the office at a reguklar Divsion meeting as reflected in the minutes. The previous Staff officer was in attendance.

Two questions.
1) what is the "Dirux system", my guess is AUXDATA.
2) when does the office change, swearing in or entry into Auxdata?

Thanks

It is. DirAux inputs the elected and appointed officers into AuxData. That in turns feeds the Nat eMail directory where you can look up your flotilla, division and district officers.

2) when does the office change, swearing in or entry into Auxdata?

Neither. Appointed officers serve at the whim, will and pleasure of the unit leader/appointing officer. As soon as the unit leader terminates the incumbent and appoints the successor the change takes place. No Auxie officer has to be sworn in for the office to be effective. Appointed officers generally automatically take office on 01 Jan (01 Nov for Nat) when the unit leader's term of office starts. Mid-term appointments start whenever the appointing officer says they start. FWIW - members do not need to be sworn in either. The swearing in is a nice ceremony without legal effect as to a member's status.

The only important things about the office start date in AuxData is that it could effect:

1. elected officers ability to run for higher office and whether a partial term qualifies as a term of office - that usually requires a DirAux ruling;

2. eligibility of appointed and elected officers to wear the office insignia and POD when they leave office. To wear the office insignia and POD you must have served 1/2 a term and that date in the case of a dispute is taken from AuxData.

Go ask your SO-IS to input you in as the SO-whatever. He/She has the ability to input division officers. It takes a whopping two minutes to login and make the change. Also make sure he/she backdates it to when you first accepted the gig.
