Well, as nice as FL is to post that stuff, I was interested in finding out if there was an easy way to do it myself. Unfortunately, it appears the hard way is the only way.

I guess late is better then never - here are this weeks numbers. I added 2 columns to the right side of the first table. The first new column is the percent of membership that membership class is of the active membership. I only supplied the numbers for IQ, BQ and AX. Given the AuxOp discussion in another thread, I thought you might like to see what percent actually hold AuxOps. The other new column is the average age of each membership class. This is obtained by switching the "Measures" from actual count to average age.

The thing I found interesting about the average age, is how much older (on average) an AuxOp member is compared to the other membership classes. They are closer in average age to the Retired group then any other membership class.

Because AuxInfo lumps the APs with the Real Active members, it cannot provide an average age of just the Real Active members. However, if you eyeball the numbers the average age of the BQ members, 59.4, is about the average or a little bit lower then the Aux as a whole. And that has been fairly constant since the late 1990s.

Without further ado - this week's Magic Numbers:

From what I've seen, I think most younger members are fairly apathetic about doing the AUXOP courses as well as the pain in trying to track down a proctor. I do MS stuff so only a couple of the courses really interest me at all.

As the actual total membership numbers are on an upswing from previous reports, I think we can assume that we've now got our final numbers.

So, it might be interesting to have these broken out by district, if FL recorded them that way earlier. Was the membership increase focused in any one area, or was it widespread across the Aux?

I didn't save the results below national. Pre-PSI I had done a study on what districts had seen membership increases from the 1990s doldrums into the late 90s and early 00s (pre-PSI).

In short, the 7th District accounted for most of the membership increase, with assistance from 1SR and 11SR. 5SR was between the 'assists' and the 'flatliners'. Most of the remaining districts were flatlined (give or take minor flucutations) with a few districts (I forget which) experiencing loses - which had to be made up by the Big 3.

I think you would find the same patterns holding up today.
