The Aux hasn't announced this yet (and it might not - it has been spotty with VSC Program announcements the last few years) but I got the following email from the USPS.

quote:
All VEs,

The West Marine has authorized VSC Discount Program again for 2008. The coupons are available for download and printing from the VSC home page http://www.usps.org/national/vsc/. They should be printed two sided if at all possible and can be black and white but the barcode must be visible to be accepted.

Vessel Safety Checks Save Lives,

The url goes to the USPS VE web page. The direct link to the coupons is:

The national VE department sent out the announcement this morning. I don't think they ever got around to doing it last year.

Based on my time in "V", less then half of the VEs have registered their email addresses - so that isn't a very reliable method. It also made it to the "V" Web page.

I wonder if Nat Aux will deem it worthy enough for posting to the What's New page, where eons ago it used to be posted.

A bad day on the water beats a good day at the office.

I don't know what other VEs do, but I've been printing out copies of the coupon on my own printer. I just tried that with the new version, and there are only three to a page, and you need to print front and back. What's worse, there's a lot of color on these coupons. With the price of ink cartridges I'm not going to be printing many of these.

Does the barcode come through looking readable? On my printer, and even when I zoom in on the coupons on screen, it is mostly big black blocks rather than the typical series of narrow bars.

It's so-so, and looks more like a (color) copy of the coupon than an original printout, but that's how it looks online too. I don't know if it would work with a bar code reader, or whether the cashier would have to key in something manually to enter the discount.

I noticed where the coupon explicity directly the clerk to scan the barcode and got curious. I'm sure they can enter those numbers, but they won't be happy about it.
