Greetings all! I just joined the CGAUX and I'm just wondering how long does it take for my application to be processed. My application was sent in over a month ago and I haven't really heard anything. Can anyone give me an average time it takes for an application to be processed?

Thanks!

I can't give you an average, but I can give you the range that I have seen in the flotilla that I belong to. Four weeks would be fast, six months would be very slow but not impossible.

There still should be activities that you can join in while you wait including the flotilla meetings and some training.

Welcome to the CGAUX.

Your application, once you have passed the initial examination requirements in CG Aux history, traditions, etc. as well as a boating safety class should be no more than 6 weeks. Having said that, it'll probably take longer depending on the paper-pushers.
Completion of the Personal Security Investigation may take up to 3 months.
During the interim you may be trained in Aux specialties, do ride-alongs, boat shows, pick up skills.
Once you have a member # you're good to go on everything except direct operational support.
Enjoy the experience.

Thanks! I was told that everything checked out and I'm just waiting for the official paperwork to come on back. I was even told I could go the holiday party since I am an "offical, yet unofficial" member of the flotilla. I already made it known that I want to do some radio watchstanding training (which should be easy considering I am also a ham radio operator).

Now I just have to be able to go to a meeting.. just that there's this pesky thing called college.... ;-) .

A bad day on the water beats a good day at the office.

There is no average time. Ask your Flotilla Commander. Even if your Flotilla has not had any new members recently, the FC should still know what the current turn around time is in your District.

You'll have to complete the PSI before you can work at a CG station as a watchstander.

Yes

NO NO NO!!!

Watchstander training, for the most part, is conducted alongside a qualified watchstander during an actual watch. The station will probably require the PS1 process to be completed prior to granting continuous access to the comms center.

6. Training, Qualifications, and Activities: a. Auxiliarists in AP status may train in any program like any other Auxiliarists in IQ, BQ, or AUXOP status. This includes mentor assignments, workshop attendance, and CG-3PCX 06 Aug 07 4 enrollment in Coast Guard or Coast Guard Auxiliary C-schools. However, they may not displace any Auxiliarists in IQ, BQ, or AUXOP status who desire to participate in any training venue.

I think Sardog was referring to the fact that many comm centers are considered "secure" areas so that would preclude someone from training in that area without a background check at a minimum.

There's always exceptions, I was focusing on "start training"

Any qualification requires the member to obtain BQ status. So the initial training should be in a safe boating class: perfect for a newbie.
