Don't know if it really means anything, but the October 2007 isse of workboat magazine has a major article on how the post 9-11 environment has affected the industry by increasing the orders for patrolboats. Whether police, navy/coast guard of several types, even Army patrol boats. The kicker was that it was the cover story, and had a picture of a Coast Guard Auxiliary rec boat with PATROL signboards on the front cover.

Exactly. I know if I buy a boat any time soon, I'll have an eye out for deckspace, how would it do as a patrol boat, etc, in addition to whatever I'm actually buying it for.
Not sure if that's what the magazine was trying to reinforce, though. I think they just wanted a picture of a generic patrolbaot of some kind and slapped up a stock picture of a Coast Guard boat (and Helo) that happened to be aux.
