Basic Training |
9.5 months into the revised BCQP. Anything different than what you expected?
Any major drop in numbers of Quals? |

Nothing more than an amazing increase in PITA and more extraneous paperwork to go astray. The real evaluation will come with the first deadlines for maintaining currency.

What the hell is wrong with this board?

Interesting Sky. From my perspective the elimination of the Currency Forms has made routine maintenance easier. I agree we won't know the full effect on quals till sometinme next year. Although I can say that in my Division we have completed checkrides on all Cox'n and one Crewmember let there quals go due to Physical considerations. (Besides we needed something other than beating the dead horse ;^)) |

That is likely. Besides, the QE enters their own data, which eliminates one iteration for neglect. At least one of my currency forms has gotten lost between FSO and SO, where the entries are actually made. Fortunately, eleven years of undeserved REYR have made me check the quals closely at the beginning of December, and I caught the mistake. As far as the rest of your question, my flotilla seems to be coping quite well, although the training officer seems to gripe a little more about having to schedule so many QE sessions. |

Don't forget the little added attractions this year.
For example, you must complete the short TCT class this year - or else it is REYR for you. Also, isn't this the last year for completing ICS100/700 for crew and that plus 200/800 for coxswain? I think if you don't have them done by Dec 31 then you go REYR. So check that everything is entered. |

Took the short TCT class about three months ago.
I completed five ICS classes last year; the four required ones and one in the 300 level. Unless they clear my REYR as a Command Pilot, it's not going to make any difference. I am tired of the political machinations. My FC checked last night, and I am shown as completing the program in 2002. Wonder why I wasn't notified? |

I thought you had given up on doing the aircrew stuff a while back? Didn't you say that you were planning on getting out anyway?

I guess my post was in the nature of a rant that you can do everything required and still get bit by the politics. I have no clue why five fully completed offers of use have been "lost" in my case. I hoped that when they got rid of the empty suit DirAux that things would change, but they haven't. In fact, the changes that they are making simply indicate that the auxiliary is not as important as before. So I am going to take my five hundred hours of volunteer time and go home. I might stay if they suddenly discovered one of my offers of use package and accepted it, but after all this time that is very unlikely to happen. |

Have you submitted one recently then or are you expecting them to bring one back from the dead?

I DO! |

I realize that it is expecting a lot, but I not only expect them to bring my last one (less than a year old) back from the dead, but to find the black hole that they have been disappearing into. And I would like an explanation and an apology. |

Sky,
Do you still have the aircraft that was offered for use? I thought I remember you saying you had a Centurion but sold it. (very nice ride by the way) Curious to know -- have any other aircraft been offered and accepted for use (at or near your base location) after you submitted your last offer for use? I suppose that you have a reason that you haven't tried to "hand-carry" the offer through the process to ensure that it too did not fall victim. |

You've been put on "the list".

You are right, although there does not seem to be a reason for it, other than I used to object fairly vocally to the continuing unsafe operation of junk heaps. We had one of the Good Ole Boys hit a fifty gallon fire bottle going about forty knots. Never heard about that one, did you. They seem to have cleaned up the operation since then though. I sold the Centurion, but I am part owner in a company that has an Aztec. I would be willing to bring it up to Coast Guard standards, but I am not going to spend the money if I can't get qualified, and it seem pretty plain that I am not going to get qualified. In fact, I have an email to that effect that the District Commodore ignored when I sent it to him. He advised me to go to my chain of command. You all know how useless that is--nobody knows nothing and they don't want to hear it. I also tried to hand carry it, and the OTO told me that he couldn't accept it from me, it had to go through the Auxiliary chain. At least he didn't say chain of command. |

The Aztec is a nice ride too -- talk about roomy, and built like a tank!
Not many twins in D8CR (not aware of any at present). Too bad on the hand carry attempt. I've seen it done where all the players were in the same room for a training session -- including the local DIRAUX -- so, it couldn't very well be brushed aside... |

The old Diraux was a real leader--avoided eye contact at any cost, and there was no problem so big that it could not be ignored. He spent one visit to our squadron dinner meeting running from me all night, lest I bring up the problem.
The Aztec has a twenty inch camera hole, and we have a lot of really nice aerial photographs. But it was built before shoulder harnesses and it is about twenty seven hundred dollars to install the shoulder harness STC. Not about to spend the money for something I don't want, don't need, and is not going to make much difference in my odyssey to volunteer. It is roomy, and it's like a Timex: takes a licking and keeps on ticking. |
