I think the Feds did not want to do it! Not because of anything except they do not want to secure our borders. If they did then they would of years ago.

Our government should have done this a long time ago. The lawmakers and people we have put in office have in essence allowed the safety and well-being of our country, as well as its citizens, to be jeopardized by criminals. I begin to wonder as do many of my veteran friends, who the real criminals really are. If our government cannot or will not do its job, it is up to each and everyone of us to do ours. I have taken an "Oath" that I believe in with all my heart. I'm thankful sometimes that my tears can blind me from seeing, even though my heart in my mind know what is right and true. Our borders should have been, but now absolutely must be protected. I believe it is right to have Border Patrols, Minuteman, whatever you want to call them. I also believe they should be thoroughly screened in an application that will prevent hate, racism, politics, and most of all people with no concept of why they have the freedoms they enjoy today. "It Can Be Done". "It Has To Be Done". I do not believe it is too late for this country to stand tall and be proud once again.
Note: God bless our military. And to our veterans here and everywhere, who have served this country honorably then as well as now, I just want to tell you I'm proud and honored to be a part of you. Thanks! |

Very well stated, thank you for your support! As you can see from many of the postings here, a lot of folks here don't get it! Our name for them takes away the main objective of what we are doing, which is really incorrect. For many it is all about the name, and not the objective..Go figure.... Ken |

My google alerter picked up something interesting this morning. It was the notice of another report that recommeneded the creation of an official US BP Aux. The full report costs $$$ and I'm not connected with it in any way. You might find it interesting in several ways, one because the synopsis mentions the CG Aux. The other is a line in the notice that states the attitude of the US Border Patrol to the citizen groups that now exist. The stated attitude conforms to what Ken has posted here.

I know why everyone on this board is upset with the name BPAUX.
We are members of the USCG AUX. We had to go through background checks, training and we have formal regulations relating to most everything we do. Sometimes we get frustrated with our parent organization - I know that I do. All that being said, at the end of the day our missions as vetted under law and by an act of Congress that officialy authorized our creation. We can be disenrolled as I have heard that some posters on this board have been for any number of reasons by our command authority in the USCG. Those of us that are frustrated with the system, like myself, continuously offer suggestions and comments trying to obtain improvement in the process. Because many of us have spent such time, money and energy in this organization and we feel that we have to fight for our legitimacy every year when budget discussions are raised, many of us take offense to what we percieve as an end run to legitimacy with another group that has no legal footing but calls itself an Auxiliary to the Border Patrol. The Article that FL51D7 has posted already seems to be drawing a comparison between the Civil Air Patrol, the USCG AUX and now your group. This is what we are worried about. The public reads this and then assumes that our organizations are similar to yours when they are clearly not. If you truly believe in your heart that the border patrol "endorses" your actions, then take the next step! The USCG AUX uniforms are almost identical to the regular USCG. The Civil Air Patrols unifroms are very similar to the Air Force. Why don't you just copy the border patrols uniforms and tape on the word "Aux" underneath the patch? I mean, after all, they endorse your actions -right? Look - many of the people on this board are sympathetic to what you are doing - I for one anm glad you are there. But please, do us a favor - do not imply that you are in any way affiliated or are part of a United States goverment agency - you very clearly are not. Continue to do the good work that you are doing but do not lead others astray by portraying yourselves as something you are not. Whatever happened to the Minuteman project? - they were effective and they did not claim that they were part of the government. Why the need for special pants and "agent" status? The whole thing makes me uncomfortable. |

There are always going to me groups(mostly with hidden agendas) who will find fault with everything these border patrol observers are trying to do. That's why it is so important that they maintain squeaky clean records. I have drawn up applications that are too long to fit on here but believe me, they cover just about everything but a body cavity search for the applicant. Funny -- maybe a little. But the truth is in order to maintain validity with the public and the Government agencies, it must be done. I have to wonder what is behind the thinking of anyone who would find fault with American citizens wanting to protect their own. I'm not close minded by any means and there are many questions I myself would ask before validating a person's reasons for wanting to join this type of organization. I have noticed most of the people on here have legitimate concerns. Also recognize the fact that a lot of people only blow up the bad things and never the good. But as I said before I don't think it is too late for this country. And I don't think it is too late for us as true American patriots to step up and stop the backsliding of this country. We must all speak out and hold our government officials accountable. We need change and we need the right people to execute that change or it will be too late. I guarantee if you took all the lobbyists out of Washington and stop the money flow, it would change overnight. That's not going to happen. We need answers from these politicians with deep pockets, and we need these answers now. Just as important we need solutions. Many members in this post have come up with admirable solutions, but when do we stop talking and start doing. I guarantee you something else as well. If American citizens would march on our nation's capital and demand these answers, and demand putting a stop to lobbyists buying votes, and put a stop to these politicians with deep pockets and hidden agendas, we would practically bring this country to a standstill and something would have to be done. In World War I when the veterans came home and camped around the White House because the bonuses promised to them were not given, the dirty little secrets and a disgrace of our government officials came to light. When the Teamsters drove their trucks toward the capital in the seventies and just parked them and walked away, this country nearly stood still for two weeks. I'm not advocating the overthrow of this government. I'm not saying let's have a coup. I'm certainly not advocating violence toward anyone. I'm just frustrated and like you I've had enough. The average amount of money given out to people who lost loved ones in 911 was somewhere in the vicinity of 3.4 or.5million dollars. A veteran who dies for his country is lucky if he can cover burial expenses. What is wrong with this picture. I don't pretend to have all the answers, but like many members on this thread, I am willing and ready to be part of the solution. To all the veterans on here, and two are men and women in the military everywhere -- God Bless" Take Care and Stay Safe"

OK, lets take this approach, you as a CG-AUXIE take various certs, classes etc and have a Federal Parent, the CG under which you operate as you say vetted under law, and the federal government, an must obey all those rules that they have laied befor you. You do many various things that reach out to the public all the time you are doing what you do, you interact with the public in many ways, education, training, safety and others. On the onther hand, BPAUX only exists because it is a private sector doing what our federal government refuses to do, or that it will not assist in providing support to get accomplished the task at hand by supplying the people to do it. Our ONLY reason to be here is because the government is not doing it's job! Simple solution, when the feds do it we can go home to our normal lives and we will welcome it! You see this is not something that any of us really enjoy, or have the desire to do, like you guys....All of us would rather be doing something at home or with our families instead of this. As for the Minuteman Project, well from what I have heard is that it gets tied up in all the political issues and really does not go down to the border any longer, I may be mistaken, but from what I keep reading Mr. Gilcrest is working the angle of the political side instead of the physical border side. BPAUX is not in any way concerned nor can it be involved with political involvvement, we only observe and report issues that concern our members to All LEO's. And again, the only connection to DHS is from the parent corporation HSPIG, and how HSPIG works with various agencies, an has the permission of DHS to use it's logo. If some other private sector asked for that permission, DHS probably would grant it to them as well, after looking into the corporation and what it was doing for the public. Again, there seems to be this false issue of compeating for resources, our Lite Air Wing Division only exists to support our efforts, we don't want to do anything that any current air patrol is doing, we want to augment these groups and extend the efforts into this issue of border protection. It is not a turf issue please. Ken, stuck in Idaho.... |

And for those of you with "Rose Colored Bi Focles" on, take a look at this:
http://www.lagunajournal.com/U.S.%20miltary%20being%20s...o%20our%20border.htm U.S. Military Being Sent to the Border with Mexico U.S. Military Being Sent to the Border with Mexico To protect & serve our border by Michael Webster: Investigative Reporter: March 13, 12:00 PM PST The Laguna Journal has learned that a special U.S. Military Task Force has been created to protect our southern border with Mexico. Members of this task force is preparing to secure the border by responding with specially trained fast response U.S. Army task force military units. These forces are already in place with the heart of the power being concentrated in El Paso and Southern New Mexico with a far reaching responsibility from East Texas to Southern California. They are being staged and immediately available as emergency "on call" units for use against terrorist threats on the nation's border and local disasters, said Gen. Victor E. Renuart Jr., commander of United States Northern Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Commander. The Ft. Bliss 1st Armored Division soldiers, as well as a new missile defense unit that are being created at Fort Bliss. America's first air defense and believed by Jane's Intel Web Report to be the owners of the sky where ever they fly. These F-22 Raptors that are stationed at Holloman Air Force Base will be available to defend homeland security, Renuart said. Renuart, who visited Joint Task Force-North, which is under his command, declined to discuss any details of threats uncovered along the border with Mexico, but he said many agencies, including JTF-North, have made "it a very difficult border for someone to take advantage of." That would explain why there have been recent reports of U.S. military being seen on the border. The Raptors are believed to be secretly patrolling the skies over the southern U.S.Border with Mexico now. The army has been seen by lots of locals all along the border at what appears to be patrolling on the ground. U.S. Soldiers have told the Journal that those U.S. Army patrols that are on and near the border are simply on maneuvers practicing for the real thing. But are available to augment the thin numbers of National guard units lift weak due to the Iraq war. And will be back up for the U.S. Border patrol and other local border law enforcement agencies. Border Patrol agents and county sheriff' patrolling the border have been witnessing a serous increase of sighting of what appears to be Mexican army regulars and civilian Los Zetas see: They're known as "Los Zetas As previously reported in the Journal the federal government acknowledged that the United States-Mexican border region has been experiencing an alarming rise in the level of criminal cartel activity, including drug and human smuggling, which has placed significant additional burdens on Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies. The U.S. border with Mexico extends nearly 2,000 miles along the southern borders of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. In most areas, the border is located in remote and sparsely populated areas of vast desert and rugged mountain terrain with vast open water of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific oceans. The U.S. government admits that the border?s vast length and varied terrain poses significant challenges to U.S. law enforcement efforts to control the entry of individuals and goods into the United States. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is the federal agency with primary responsibility to detect and prevent illegal entry into the United States. The latest available data indicates that approximately 11,000 CBP agents patrol the nearly 6,000 miles of international border the United States shares with its neighbors Mexico and Canada. Dozens of U.S. citizens have been kidnapped, held hostage and killed by their captors in Mexico and many cases remain unsolved. Moreover, new cases of disappearances and kidnap-for-ransom continue to be reported. See: Americans Being Kidnapped, Held and killed in Mexico In addition to Federal agents, State, sheriff, and local police dept's are expected to help patrol the border areas. In remote areas along the border, many sheriffs? departments are called upon to address border-related criminal matters and serve as a backstop to CBP operations. In many cases, these local law enforcement agencies do not have the resources necessary to patrol the thousands of square miles of border territory under their respective jurisdiction, leaving the security of the U.S. border vulnerable. While the Southwest border hosts robust legal commercial activity, the border also is the site of violent criminal enterprises. These enterprises are carried out by organized criminal syndicates of Mexican/American cartels, gangs and international terrorist which include the smuggling of WMD's, drugs, humans, weapons, and cash across the U.S.-Mexico border. "It is prudent for us to assume that any of these established trafficking routes, whether it's human trafficking or drugs or arms or money, any of those could be used, and so we want to keep our eyes and ears on all of those to ensure that they are not used in that regard," Renuart said. See: New Terrorist Bases South Of The Border Both the F-22 and the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, missile -- designed to destroy short- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles as they re-enter Earth's atmosphere -- are recent additions to the nation's arsenal. A THAAD unit is being created at Fort Bliss. THAAD "provides extremely reliable terminal phase missile defense, something we need both with our theater commanders across the (world) as well as here at home, if the threats of rogue nations continue to emerge," Renuart said. "We've got to find better ways to integrate that capability into our broader missile defense capability." The F-22s are being used in North American Aerospace Defense Command, and NORAD, air patrols. "Most importantly, it (the F-22) is a commitment to the recapitalization of aging forces in our Air Force," Renuart said. "As you know, we are averaging almost 30 years an airframe now, and the F-22 is the best not just air-to-air fighter in the world, but it will bring a great air-to-ground capability." Possibly the greatest challenge will be to support National Guard and reserve forces feeling the strain of repeated deployments that also have depleted equipment supplies. Guard units respond to natural disasters as well as bridge collapses and other human-caused incidents. "Our job at NORTHCOM is to ensure that if there's a seam or a gap there that we're thinking of how we could fill that with some other capability out of" the Defense Department, he said. "What that has forced us to do it is think about, 'How do you solve that time/distance problem, even on a short-notice event. And so I have access to capabilities now that I didn't have a year or two ago that I can move very quickly to fill that need. "For example, if there were something that occurred in the El Paso area that the Texas National Guard might not have a capability immediately available to respond, but Fort Bliss did in an active-duty unit, then I would pull that active-duty unit out and make that available to the state to assist." See: War On Drugs And Terror Sources: U.S. Army Joint Task Force-North The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Holloman Air Force Base Gen. Victor E. This guy is concealing his minuteman family ties to appear like something he is not. I googled this guys group too and the other guy who he mentioned and found a lot of evidence to prove that these guys are just the minutemen! and now they ask for $50!!!!! So what experience do they have if they are NOT the minutemen yet are completely new. and they were trained by the same government that they now claim does NOT know how to secure the border? i'm totally confused, or at least i would be if i didnt know this is all about collecting $50 a head!!!! ahahahah! busted minutemen! busted! visit sandiegoindymedia dot com for more info on these guys.

Kdreger,
Once again, thank you for the good work that you are doing. On the other hand I think you have completely stepped over the main issue that most of us have with your organization. It is clearly not the work that you are doing. It is the fact that, regardless of how you paint the picture, you have created a situation where people could quite easily mistake you for a legitimate civil authority. Consider. Let's say that I am interested in Marine safety. I decide that the civil authorities are not doing the work that they should be and decide to form a citizens possee or private group to monitor marine safety. I then adopt the name Navy Auxilliary. I place blue lights on my boats, have special ID's, uniforms, sirens, etc... Oh, and then I arm myself as well. I then elect myself as "the Grand Admiral" and wear a special nautical hat when I am on the water. Now - would it be possible for people to mistake me for a civil authority? My guess is that they would. Would the Navy get pissed off at me? Why yes, I think they would. This is an extreme example and just one that I am using for effect, but I think you get my point. If you truly want to be an Auxilliary to the Border Patrol, call your congressman and have legislation passed that will allow you to LEGITIMATELY use the name Border Patrol Auxilliary. YOU ARE IMPLYING BY YOUR NAME THAT A RELATIONSHIP EXISTS BETWEEN YOU AND THE BORDER PATROL - IT DOES NOT! Quite kidding yourself and everyone else on this board. Call yourself something that identifies you as a private citizens group in your name and your logo! You have NOTHING in common with the USCGAUX, the Civil Air Patrol or any state approved military reserve! My final point. If you want the name Border Patrol Auxilliary - do it right. If you want to be considered just another fringe group, do it the way you are doing it now. |

Here is one that comes close. Lagoon Keepers. The guy who founded that and runs it modeled it after the various River Keeper organizations. He was and remains an Auxie. He founded it because of a very obvious need and the failure of the local Aux (my old flotilla and division AOR) to address it. The Aux failure to address it stems from 2 fronts. First, despite all the hoopla over the Trident program since 1999 and an SO-MS and several FSO-MSs (including me at one time) to make it work - the higher level Aux showed no interest in making it work or even trying to assist those who were making the attempt. The Lagoon Keepers were founded at the depths of that lack of support from the Higher Ups. The second failure was the local Aux on patrol. Desptie a very active patrol schedule, very few of the Auxie patrols ever reported marine pollution/debris (although there was a lot of it) and fewer would bother to clean it up (the clean-up would have been within regs). The same problem existed with the ATON program - only one crewman (later a coxswain) ever reported ATONs in the AOR. Since he stopped patrolling almost 2 years ago - no discrepancies have been reported. So although you had on paper what looked like an active patrol schedule - all you really had going on was drilling holes in water at government expense. Hence the Lagoon Keepers. And has been noted thru-out this discussion, a similar lack of activity on the part of the government, including the Aux has lead to the creation of the BP Aux. I'm not buying this name arguement for a second. No matter what they called themselves the CG Aux wouldn't like them. |

I totally agree. Ken's group is clearly doing something of value to the country.
I strongly agree with this. But I dont think the caps are needed; Ken has repeatedly replied to this opinion, so he has heard it. He just doesnt agree with us.
Well, that is what I would do, but Ken took a different tack. He says his attorneys' opinion is that "BPaux" is legal to use. Seems its ok because the phrase "United States" is not used in the BPaux name. If our government chooses to avoid confronting the BPaux, then it seems our only option is to complain to our government. |

We all understand this point of discussion, but the fact remains that we are NOT related, we are the private sector, and until BP wishes to take us under them by some chance we will remain that, but still a private corporation, not a federal program! No federal $$$$ only private $$$ no federal grants, nothing Federal. We understand your argument, and it is very clear, and has been from the start, but what you don't seem to get here is that as a private sector group, we don't have to play with anybody on the block, it is OUR choice who we want to play with or not unlike the public sector where they are obligated to work with the private sector! So, after Tuesday we will see how the CG feels about BPAUX. |

And in doing so you would have to go after every organization in the country who uses the name also, not just BPAUX, won't happen, because the federal government does not want egg on their faces any longer, and they need the private sector since we own 80% of all the assets on the country! Once the federal government begins going after the private sector, I am moving to Northern Idaho and hunkering down! If you know what I mean! Nasty times those would be.... And Illegal Immigration would be the least of my worries then! |
