FL>:Any word on how the Heroes of Red Stick made out?
FL>:I think eirikr1 is a Nawlins resident. He probably evacuated.
Thankyou, btw, both FL and others, for your concern. It's appreciated. Did you get an nswer to how the Heroes of Red Stick made out? My info is that Baton Rouge actually got hit worse than we did...
I heard from another member who heard form Wonder Woman before Gustav went thru. There has been no word since.
Down here (SE FL) we dodged Hanna. By the track line (but not the cone) it looks like we will mostly dodge Ike. By the track line, it doesn't look good for the keys or the gulf area.
Ike doesn't look good for the Gulf. I'm already making preparations this weekend. If it puts crosshairs on NW Florida -- I'll defintely evacuate early next week. Ivan was a Cat 4 and I had a 17' storm surge pass through the first level of the house while I was in it (not intentional to ride it out). I'll not do that again.
I got power back tonight, but I'm one of the lucky ones. Many will be out for weeks (the target estimate from the power company is Sept 24). You probably haven't heard how much of a major disaster area Baton Rouge is. After the storm spared New Orleans, the media packed up and left to chase better stories.
Even though New Orleans is ok, the rest of Louisiana, especially Baton Rouge and Houma, got hit very hard. Lots of houses destroyed (3 - that I know of - just in my congregation, at least 400 citywide). Thankfully no deaths in my congregation. The church still has no electricity but we will be gathering on Sunday anyway. We've now purchased and given away 2 tractor-trailer loads of ice (about $15,000 worth) to the community. We've also sent out about a dozen "chain gangs" to saw trees and pick up debris in area yards. As for me, our house escaped major damage; we'll only have to replace our roof.
Please help us spread the word that, despite media reports, the hurricane did NOT miss. It only missed New Orleans. It's one of the strongest hurricanes to hit Baton Rouge in recorded history.
Hello from Red Stick (a/k/a Blue Tarp City). Mr. WW and I made it through Hurricane Gustav okay. Our electricity is finally back on – although there are quite a few generators still running in our neighborhood. Baton Rouge is quite a mess. Hopefully, we won’t have a one-two punch with Ike. Thanks for checking on us!
