I think you all need to be clear in your replies since:

a. while it is true most Auxies probably do not live near commissaries, many do live near CGEXs.

b. the big issue the last time this came up here wasn't commissary privileges since (a) above. What was the big issue was B&B - booze and butts at the CGEX.

And the latter issue has come up before the Nat Board numerous times and they turn it down since that would attract members to the Aux just for the B&B benefit alone. And as desparate as the Aux is for members, that is a bridge they did not want to cross. It will be interesting to see if they revise that opinion if membership nose dives after the Disenrollments of 2007 are processed.

I very much doubt that anyone in their right mind would actually go through all the hassle involved with joining and staying the Aux to save a few % on booze and cigs.

Whether we're talking commisaries or exchanges, I see it more as a nice thing to do for people who spend a lot of their own money and time supporting the CG.

Either way, I don't live near either, but it would give me a slight morale boost to know that the CG valued our help enough to allow us some perks.

What hassle? Everyone keeps telling us what a walk in the park the PSI is. BTW - once you are in and have the ID there is no hassle. What the Nat Board was concerned about was the 'get the card and never show up for anything but B&B at the CGEX' member.

And there probably are substantial numbers of people who would join not only for the reduced price B&Bs but also for the illegal opportunity to resell them at a mark-up but below local market rates.

As an Auxie you are already authorized CG Exchange/MWR privileges except for the B&B items already mentioned. That is far ahead of the "other" organization which extends those privileges only under very specific circumstances, on an activity with a MSA and occupying govt. quarters. I was impressed that the CG extended me the privilege without all the requirements of the "other" organization.

Does someone have a citation for a policy or regulation that lays out exactly what Auxies can buy at CG Exchanges or facilities operated by other services?

That was a rhetorical question, wasn't it? Big Grin

I have several all from the AuxMan.

AuxMan 3.D.1. Membership Privileges

quote:
• Authorized to use Coast Guard Exchange System (CGES) exchanges, pursuant
to the restrictions contained in the Nonappropriated Fund Activities Manual,
COMDTINST M7010.5 (series).
• Authorized to use Department of Defense exchanges only when purchasing articles and accessories of the uniform.

In the Retired member section of Chapter 3 Membership:

AuxMan 3.D.2.b. Restrictions

quote:
Cannot use Government exchanges, vehicles, or postage.

AuxMan 6.A.1. Services

quote:
The basic law that authorizes the Auxiliary also provides that Coast Guard resources and facilities may be employed in Auxiliary administration and operation, and certain appropriations may be made available for such purposes. The Coast Guard may provide the Auxiliary with use of:

{snip some stuff}

Coast Guard Exchanges for the purchase of goods and services, except alcohol and tobacco products.

AuxMan 10.B.2. Coast Guard Exchanges and Uniform Stores

quote:
The Commandant has authorized Auxiliarists to buy uniform and insignia items in all Coast Guard exchanges and uniform stores. This delegation extends to the outlets of other services for uniform purchases. Special order service (not mail order) may be used in Coast Guard exchanges for items not in stock. Some uniform stores, however, will accept mail orders for uniform garments. The Auxiliary identification card is the only document needed for entry and purchasing ability.

AuxMan 10.B.3. Coast Guard Uniform Distribution Center

quote:
Auxiliarists may also order uniforms by mail from the Coast Guard Uniform Distribution Center (UDC), Woodbine, NJ. Order forms are available from the ANSC. Dinner Dress and Service Dress White uniforms may be procured from Navy Exchange Uniform Shops.

AuxMan 11.E.2. Replacements

quote:
Auxiliarists may purchase replacement Auxiliary ribbons, medals, and devices, for all appropriate awards and qualifications, from the AUXCEN through established district channels. Replacement Coast Guard awards may be purchased through Department of Defense/Coast Guard exchanges or through the Coast Guard UDC in Woodbine, NJ.
