Here is a story about a long-time Auxie in Joe Lorie of Brandon Florida that in part says:
quote:
In response to the bombing of the USS Cole on Oct. 12, 2000, which killed 17 sailors and wounded 39 others, the Army flew Lori to Kuwait to certify military personnel in the use of recreational watercraft - one of many ground-breaking initiatives noted in Lori's numerous citations.

It doesn't specifically say he went as an Auxie, but says he got a citation for it, which implies it may have been done as an Auxie. FL, heard anything about that incident that would shed some light on the matter?

A bad day on the water beats a good day at the office.

Great story. Maybe he'll be able to tell you more himself--he's in the eDirectory.

That is a fairly old story. There was a Breeze (7th District Aux newsletter) and I think a SitRep article on that around the time it occured. Unfortunately all the SitRep articles from that time frame have been deleted - except for those dealing with N-Train and NACON. He did go as an Auxie.

Joe is an ADSO-OP/PWC in D7 and for a long while was the only QE authorized to qualify members on PWCs. However, the district would not fund him to travel so that put quite a damper on the PWO program in the 7th (note to self: maybe post a note to the other thread on that).

I don't know Joe but I know people who do and by all accounts he is one of the hardest working Auxies around.

Thanks for the confirmation. Obviously such events are extremely rare in the Aux, but are still good to see.
