Greetings,

I’m interested in joining the Aux but have had trouble getting in contact with any local flotillas. I have research theses forums and have used the tips provided by other posters on how to search and look up the aux date base. I have submitted by info in the main aux website, emailed members of different flotillas in my area and others with driving distance over a week ago. Yet I have not received any contact from anyone . Does the Aux still need members in south California? District 11sr? A lot of the websites seem outdated or provide no information in contacting them

I currently live in Upland CA and willing to drive to the beach communities every other weekend. (Work schedule permitting)

I’m 29, and have no experience in boats/ships but willing to learn.

Any help will be appreciated.

You're right that some local Aux web pages are often outdated, and because of that you're probably better off calling a phone number than an email (since that account may or may not be active). The person you're going to want to contact would be the Personnel Officer or Flotilla Commander. I suspect it will take a few weeks for the information you submitted to national to get filtered down to the appropriate flotilla.

However, any flotilla would be more than happy to have you just show up at a meeting whether or not you've contacted them in advance.

Hi. I live on the other side of the US, but here's what I found out for you. I hope it helps....

Newport Beach.. (I think that's about 50 minutes from you?) I see on their website that they are teaching Boating Safety Courses this fall. If you go here:

You can click on the Flotilla Commander link and get info about joining.

Using zip code 91786 for Upland, CA (formerly North Ontario) I find the following flotillas near you:

114-11-02 ONTARIO FLOTILLA 2 miles Caution: website last updated 03 Jan 2005. According to the web site:

114-04-05 SAN GABRIEL VALLEY FLOTILLA 13 miles No website.

114-15-08 NORTH ORANGE COUNTY FLOTILLA 16 miles No website.

114-11-07 EL MONTE FLOTILLA 17 miles Caution: website last updated 02/11/05. According to the website:
Our Flotilla meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at the
Galaday Family Restaurant
437 S. Azusa AVE

114-11-01 LA HABRA FLOTILLA 21 miles Caution: website last updated 1 Jan 06. According to the website:
The Flotilla meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the La Habra Veteran's Memorial Hall located at 209 N. Orange in La Habra, California. For more information contact: call: 562.947.0928

If you want to research the flotillas in AuxInfo after selecting "Coast Guard" in the column header, select in turn "PACAREA" (twice), "District 11" and then "11SR". The flotillas of interest are spread across 3 divisions, 04, 11 and 15.

Some quick numbers:

flotilla # members avg age
Ontario 25 66.1
La Habra 20 56.3
El Monte 15 68.1
San Gabriel 14 52.1
N Orange 37 57.7

You should go in and look at the Member Activity, Competencies and Facilities cubes to get an idea of how active and in what areas the flotillas are.
