No, we're not 'forced' (heck they can't 'tell' us Auxies to do anything Angry Whip ); however, there seems to be, in my division anyway, a sort of institutional mindset in which cross-flotilla crews don't happen. Our Disaster callout plan does have cross-flotilla crews listed, although that's a different situation, much more of an 'all-hands' scenario... which thankfully we haven't had to activate for real since we finished revising last year...

Also, our opfacs are usually 25-footers, crew of two + one Coxswain needed at most, and so there isn't a lot of need for additional crewmembers from other flotillas...
As far as training on the water, we do exercise (towing evolutions, etc.) with other flotillas sometimes, or we get crew from them to augment our boats- our division may be the exception rather than the rule re: cross-flotilla work, which I find surprising only b/c overall we're a pretty cohesive division with good relations in both CG Sectors (LIS & NY) within which we operate... I imagine it depends on the location...

Sometimes the "Forcing" is peer pressure. When I was a flotilla commander, one of my members developed a relationship with the owner of a big boat from another flotilla. She started to crew for him regularly until one of our former flotilla commanders stood up in meeting and castigated her thoroughly for being "unfaithful" to our flotilla. I put a stop to it as fast as I could, but the damage was done. Guess who I never saw at another flotilla meeting, and whose renewal dues didn't get paid?

Yes.

I have never seen this particular problem in the Auxiliary, although it used to be rampant in CAP. Maybe CAP's fourth cornerstone is better than our fourth conerstone?

I have seen a similar issue surround a relationship gone bad. involving an FC and a member (who never showed up for another meeting again; to be fair, I think it was the member's fault that things went sour between the two, and I think the FC's flotillamates backed her up, which added to the 'awkward' factor)...
maybe we should start an Aux soap opera channel.. Beer

Sounds to me that "As the Screw Turns" would be more appropriate in an inappropriate sort of way). Big Grin

I was thinking....

quote:
Screw: a rotary propelling device, as for a ship or airplane, consisting of a number of blades that radiate from a central hub and are so inclined to the plane of rotation as to tend to drive a helical path through the substance in which they rotate.

But I understand there are several other definitions, including some identified as "slang" and/or "vulgar slang."
