While browsing the internet for things about the Temporary Reservists who served the CG during WWII, I was suprised to find that in the Department of Justice's 2003 National Crime Victimization Survey manualthey take into account whether or not household members serve in the CG Temporary Reserve (page B1-62). They only mention it once and don't elaborate on it.

But, since there hasn't been a CG TR in over 60 years, I'm a little surprised to see it on a modern survey, even though the CG still has the authority to have them.

Did you see the even bigger whooper related to the same question?

The part you saw is discussing possible answers to Item 20 (see pdf page 244):

quote:
Item 20 (Armed Forces) For each household member (male or female) ages 18
through 65, ask the question in Item 20. Leave Item 20 blank when the household member is under 18 years of age or over 65 years of age.

We both know that no member of the TR is going to be under 65 so the reference should not be there. But more importantly what isn't there but should be.

Here is the detail to the quote above:

quote:
A household member is considered as "in the Armed Forces" when the person is at least 18 years of age and not over 65 years of age and is serving on active duty at the time of interview in the:
! U.S. Army
! U.S. Navy
! U.S. Air Force
! U.S. Marine Corps
! Reserve branch of any of the above Armed Services and is currently on active duty status for several months
! U.S. Public Health Service as commissioned officers who are attached to any branch of the above Armed Services
! National Guard in Federal Service (if his/her unit has become part of regular forces by Presidential Order)
! United States military academies as Cadets (for example, West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and the Coast Guard Academy).

CG Cadets make it into the definiton of Armed Forces but the AD CG does not. Whoops!!!!

And not that it makes a bit of difference, but any former members of the TRs is going to be under 80 years old. Of course there are no current members, which is really what the question was getting at....
