Have been asked to provide Boat Crew Training to a newer Flotilla, that includes some classroom time, and am wondering if anyone has access to some good training tools to use. Looking for some Lesson plans already made, power points, ect.
An easy to construct aid is to take a decent sized piece of plywood and add a cleat, use some large dowels to construct a samson post, etc. Makes it easy to teach knots and securing lines in the classroom. Cut out a couple of boat shaped boards and add some pushpins for cleats. Makes a nice way to teach towing principles. I've seen a couple of videos showing lock operations for those of us who don't have them handy.
Go into the Aux eMail directory and look for Mel Kowel - aka Mr PowerPoint. Mel was the guiding light, inspiration and all-around-nice-guy who built the 3 CD PowerPoint Project CDs - many of which are suitable for Boat Crew Training. I don't remember if it was Mel or Paul Mayer who put together the separate CD for Boat Crew Training. If Mel doesn't have the later, then look Paul up in the eMail Directory and ask him for the latter. You really want both sets.
All of the above used to be available on the DirAux West and Aux eTrain sites. For whatever reasons they had, all the above disappeared when the CG ordered the FFA to take DirAux West, Aux eTrain and several other sites off-line.
The presentations are PowerPoints. To speed downloading you might want to right click on them and download them to your local drive and then open and run them.
BTW - although on a Nat Aux site, those presentations are really the work of DirAux West.
