She has much better control than before and many less problems. You are right the migraines are part of the problem. Two strokes, one at 21 are a large factor in her disease. The topimax was added back in to control the migraines.

I would like to change the topic title and move it to another area. I would like the participants to agree up front, so that we may continue this dialog with a larger community. I will link it to a Veterans tonight.

There is no known link - I changed the topic to closely relate to the real topic it has become.

Epilepsy can occur to to a brain malformation at birth or due to a brain injury. The latter can include stroke, TBI, high fever, and a number of biologic diseases that affect the brain. I am by no means an expert on all the things that can cause seizure disorder.

A number of things that happen in the service can cause the type of brain injury to cause seizures. Military service can be tough, the men and women think they are invincible, and the brain is not. War, the training for war, the curture of warriors and the technology of war leave lots of places to hurt the brain.

Hi 151- Indicated that an (EEG withn 48 hrs) of the first seizure presentation, this is no longer the case. The test can not always accurately diagnosis whether or not the patient will have recurrent seizures. Those patients who have had recurrent seizures (two or more) does not matter when the EEG is preformed. Sooner rather than later. Exception being, medical emergency.

Together with a careful hx. and examination , this will allow definition of epilespy syndrome of two-thrids of the epilespy population.

having a normal EEG (like your husband), does NOT exclude the presence of a seizure disorder (I mentioned this in an earlier post). On average about 30-50% of individuals clinically diagnosed with seizures has completley NORMAL EEG.( also your husband being on seizure meds will be factored in on the interpertation of the EEG)

However, I would await the findings of the MRI, and discuss all findings and concerns with your husbands neurologist.

Keep us posted...

Speak to your husbands neurologist about your concerns. It is very RARE for any problem to occur if a seizure is less than 5 minutes.

Dave_M can explain about SSI, and VA benefits.

Keep us posted, on how your husband makes out with his EEG, and benefits...

BTW- Cider has idopathic epilepsy. That is, no evidence is found in the brain, and cause isn't known.(given her recorded hx. above)

Oh wow could you be more wrong!!!
(please don't take any offense to that)

Maybe my Husbands is that one in a Million
but so far since an incident in Iraq on his last tour he has had 4 seizures. The last one he had (which was a week ago) caused him to go completely blind in his right eye (he had injured that as well in iraq and had some issues with it but still had 1/2 sigh in it)
and caused him to have memory loss every time he sleeps. The only thing his DR said what he has mini seizures while he sleeps which is why he has the memory loss every day! but his seizure on sunday only lasted a few min.

I hve first hand knowledge of both Petit Mal and Grand Mal seizures - my wife has had both in front of me. Most last a very short time - minutes at most. She rarely has them, but they do happen.

And PipeDreamBabies is a medical doctor.
