We've begun this new forum to provide support and encouragement to one another. Of course, this will be a heavily moderated forum due to the very nature of PTSD. Strict adherence to the TOS will be maintained here.

What you will not find here is specific advice as to your condition, as your medical and counseling providers are the experts, not an anonymous bulletin board; makes sense.

So, welcome aboard; let's help each other.

Thanks.

I am glad to be the second to post on this new site. We should see some new and improved interaction with the forumily.
I cannot think of a better moderator on this site than OldAFCop a brother who has experience and knowledge in the PTSD arena. A better moderator of this forum could not have been chosen.
Congratulations to OldAFCop! Wink Cool

Living with PTSD sometimes feels like I'm not living. I go through the motions of living but feel very little at times. With me its like a pattern. Stress triggers nightmares, flashbacks, anger, startle, anxiety, then depression. This cycle lasts forever when it gets to the depression it seems. My way out is usually to visit my sister who saved my life 33 years ago when I first got out of the Army. Her home is my safe place and she is my number one safe person. Without her I'd be dead now. I'm in that cycle now and will be visiting her in the next three weeks. Anyone relate to this cycle?

Hi everyone: For me living with PTSD is a major challenge! I compare it to living on a roller coaster and it does repeat in cycles for me! I have learned to ask for help from the VA. I take positive steps, take my medications and see my mental health DR. I try to avoid unhealthy stress. I just lately turned the problem regarding my husband and MaryEllen over to my Pastor. I have tried everything that I can think of to do, so now I just wait and take one day at a time. Having PTSD is the first time in my life that I realized that I had to take care of me first. You are not alone living with PTSD! Sally

OK...thanks, I'll be dropping by occasionally. Eek Big Grin

Not too many threads out there on PTSD...probably like me the first time I was told I had PTSD.."What's a PTSD, doesn't sound like I want one, thank you."

I am happy to hear there is some kind of pre-PTSD symptom that is being recognized by the military...hope early recognition and treatment off-sets alot of full blown PTSD that seems to emerge after discharge. I also hope that funding will be directed toward these programs because it is vital for returning veterns who are neglected alot of times after service to the country, and just struggle in their own private nightmare.

I have to give a plug here for Togus, Maine VA for their PTSD Life Skills program. It did alot for me and many others I know.

Be thinking of ya.

Back in the late 1990's the annual AMVETS NSO Seminar was in Portland Maine, I loved it! The people were so friendly. We had training by the Togus Regional Office personnel and the VAMC on PTSD.
I miss the Maine trip, the beauty of the area is breathtaking. One evening after sessions, we were taken by bus up the coast to an AMVETS post. There we had a clam bake, with baked lobster! They treated us like royality. On the way, we passed fishing boats galore. Some of the scenery looked like Cabot Cove on "Murder She Wrote."
The Togus VAMC staff was well committed to assisting veterans with PTSD issues.

Thanks to all for checking in and *bookmarking* this new forum.

Probably will take a bit of time to get off the ground, but with your good help, I am sure we'll be just fine.

Sorry - I think I posted my message about locating nurses at the 93rd Evac in the wrong place. I should have posted it here, which I am now doing. I was stationed in Cat Lai with the 124th Transportation Co. (2/70 to 2/71) I'm fighting a denial of a claim for PTSD with the VA and must locate nurses who worked at the 93rd Evac Hospital in Long Binh, Ward 5, during June 1970 (or even close to that time period). Records we got only had cryptic doctor's notes. I must find someone (probably a nurse) who can verify that part of the treatment for patients with viral pneumonia was having them walk around (with their oxygen) including walking outside the hospital. My claim was denied because according to "hospital protocol" I would have been in a different ward than the combat wounded (which is true) but it was during my walks outside the hospital that I came into contact and viewed the wounded being brought in. If anyone has info on how to locate any of these nurses or doctors, please let me know. (My wife typed this for me).

When you folks were at Togas, Maine, did you run into a guy by the name of Gary Burns in the DAV office. He helped me with my claim more than he will ever know.
