I have dropped my career as a graphic designer after my husband has been transferred to Boston who is a corporate executive. The situation changed when John lost his job in a corporate reorganization. My children are in high school now and they can take care of themselves. I would really love to start my job again and I think it would be financially sensible. My husband does not agree with me and this is causing stress in my family life. He has starting taking a few medicines without a physician’s consultation. Can anyone suggest a better and safe way? All tips and suggestions are welcome.

Welcome to the PTSD forum!

We really don't have enough information to go on here. If you or your husband are vets, the first step is to get to a Vet Center and get the process rolling of treating underlying conditions.

We're here to support you; the first step is to get into the system if that is not the case.

Taking any prescription meds without a consultation is a very dangerous direction.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for your first post!

You did not say if you and/or your husband are veterans and able to work. Also , the ages of your children, they can do part time jobs to help out. Taking any medication without Drs. advice is not a good idea ! Your husband may feel like he is letting down supporting your family because he lost his job. Think of other jobs that you both can do. If you are veterans there is alot of help avaible to you. Please post again. Sally

It’s nice of you, thinking of starting your career again to help your husband keeping in view of the current situation. Well taking medicines without a physician’s consultation is not good. I think he better opt for stress relief patches which could be available from -->Commercial site deleted by MOD. Violation of TOS of this site<-- They have a calming effect and safe. Hope this would help you.

The best way to deal with stress is under the regimen of treatment proscribed by a caring health provider who understands your case.

Each person is the expert in their own affairs. If you aren't sure about the level of understanding your health care provider has of your situation, find another. We do have that responsibility as patients to get the best treatment we can find, no matter the diagnosis.

Thanks.

There is stress as part of daily life. There is good stress and then there is bad stress. With PTSD as with any other illnes/disorder we need to seek medical help from trained providers and take the medication. PTSD is a very complex mental disorder and needs to be treated the sooner the better. Sally

Stress is part of being alive! Some people are able to use it as a motivator; to help them get the juices going and be productive. Part of the complicated problem of PTSD is to manage stress in a way which works for the individual, instead of debilitating the individual.

A tricky balance, but certainly a goal worth working toward.
