I've been trying to find someone to chat with about Female US Soldiers who served in Somalia.
I'm writing a fiction novel--I'd like the main character to have some military experience, but both my cousins are in Iraq right now and have limited time to write to me and answer my questions.
Ultimately, I'd love to chat with somoene who was there in Somalia during the whole crisis at Mog. I wouldn't be asking any specific questions, more along the lines of what the women there did, where they were stationed, what they dealt with on a daily basis.
If any of you would be interested in helping answer a few questions, please email me at jennafern@aol.com, but I will be checking the posts here as well.
I would be interested in understanding Somalia too but I dont see to many folks who served there posting (yet, I am new to the board...still reading threads on Somalia)

That was Operation Restore Hope...right?
Wonder why it wasnt a big media darling...
The best thing at the moment is to watch Black Hawk Down. That movie was all about Somalia, but alas no women.
The BHD incident was only two days of the Somalia deployment. We had troops over there for something like a year and a half. It's like talking about WW2 and only mentioning Normandy or Iwo Jima.
A good book about the mission is Martin Stanton's "Somalia on $5 a day". It's about an Infantry unit with the 10th Mountain, so no women, but is very informative about the mission and what troops did over there.
