I have had problems with numbness, burning, like of feeling in my hands and feet also some like of feelin in my face especially my lips every since Vietnam. However, I was very young and it didn't hinder me too much. As I have gotten older These symptoms are worse and constant. Sometimes very painful. I cmplained to my Va primary care doctor and he scheduled me for a EMG with a neurologist. The test showed that I indeed have nerve damage. The neurologist said that these symptoms are consistant with Vietnam vets expose to Agent Orange. I do not have diabetes. They also did some more blood test to rule out lead and STD's. My question is should I file a claim with the Va. I know neuropathy has a time limitation?

Thanks,

Wayne Thompson

Good question. VA recognizes acute and sub-acute peripheral neuropathy as the NAS showed a Limited Suggestive Association. However that type must manifest within the one year from separation from service. VA says within a period from time of exposure, but they are off course. As any acquired condition within one year, may be service connected, exposed or not.

However you should file for SC anyway, even if you do not have acute or sub-acute type peripheral neuropathy. At least you get your claim entered and when NAS does link, you are in line! I have several discussions on my website regarding peripheral neuropathy. Links are on the Agent Orange Discussion Board marquee.

I find that VERY INTERESTING! I had (have) identical problems! I sought help as soon as I returned from Vietnam, never even thinkig it might be Agent Orange. I got as far as a neurologist within the time period, but was repeatedly scoffed at, and the Major Neurologist actually accused me of "goldbricking?! I was so PO I never went back to him.
Fast forward years later: I was diagnosed with Agent Orange presumed caused diabetes, and the C&P Doc was questioning me. I mentioned that I thought I had peripheral neuropathy from Agent Orange, but the rules kept me from claiming it. I was surprised when the approval came back, I was granted 20% for Peripheral Neuropathy for Diabetes! There is no doubt in my mind that my arm and leg numbness, tingling, and pain was caused by Agent Orange damage to nerve endings..
