What an interesting article,
Pusser's Rum It gives the impression that RN ships are now dry, like the USN, surely not? I know for a fact that the RAN and the RNZN still have their daily ration. |

I don't think that they're dry but I seem to recall that the rum-ration had been abolished in favour of some variation of the Two Can Rule. As far as I know alcohol is still available in the messes and it's certainly available in the Wardroom as that USMC exchange party found when running Harriers off HMS Illustrious.

Basic Training |
The issue of rum ceased in the Royal Navy on 1st August 1970. Rum was only issued for the lower deck (enlisted men I think you say) Junior rates (Leading hands and below) received grog which is two of water and one of rum. Senior rates (petty Officers and Chief Petty Officer) received neat rum. This was overproof something like *****rs but more like Woods 100. I came out in 1970. If they had kept the tot I'm sure to have stayed in. LOL

But when Her Majesty proclaimed "splice the mainbrace" for the RAN's 75th, I didn't get my ish. I'm still waiting people!!!
