Why wouldn't it happen? Don't you think it'd be best if they were around more than one weekend a month 2 weeks a yr?

Jerry, I don't doubt your info at all. But I do wonder what makes you so sure. Or more well-phrased, I wonder what the reasoning and logic behind PS never becoming an active rate is.

PS's at MSU's do MST-type work.

I know PS's at STA's who do BM-type work.

PS's at PSU's do either BM or PS work (driving boats or MARSEC duties), when deployed. When not deployed, PS's at PSU's train for deployment.

Almost like a DOD asset. DOD trains for war until war comes, then DOD gets to actually do its job. Once the war is over, DOD goes back into training mode and prepares for the next war.

PS's are kind of a dinosaur for the CG, which does its job daily regardless of it being a time of peace or time of war.

As a PS I had about 12 different qual codes. It was always emphasized to us to acquire as many qual codes as we could get.

We were the "IN CASE OF WAR, BREAK GLASS" folks. We had a number of PS's locally who acquired the 54-Bravo (NBC NCO) designator from the Army after the first Gulf War (NBC is now considered WMD). The PS motto ought to be MORE IS BETTER.

If the upcoming IS's are coming from the OS ranks (robbing Peter to pay Paul), from what ranks are the AD PS's going to come? MST? (For those of you who don't know or remember, today's Reserve MST's came from the Reserve PS ranks).

No, I don't foresee PS becoming an Active Duty rating.

IMHO.

Well, now you made me do it. I pulled out and dusted off the binders of certificates and qual letters and found 14 different quals I've accumulated over the past 21 years.

EA, EP, ER, ES, HS, "M" BO, CTVEP Examiner (UTV - local qual), HH, KA, KB, EM, HA, HB, and EQ.

Does that cut the mustard? Cool

Seems like the first place they would go to get AD folks would be to ask for reservists to go AD. Seems like they could also get BM's, MK's, GM's and/or anyone else assigned to a TACLET, LEDET or MSST who wanted to do a lateral transfer to do so.

Cool. AD PS rate, that opens up lots of advancement opportunities... Of course, those who want to lateral are going to have to complete the PS PQS, not just LE stuff.
