Hey all,
I got off active-duty last May and I've gotten sick of working with 16 year old kids. I'm heading to the Boston area for college in January and I've found that there is a PS reserve unit in Rhode Island. My questions are pretty basic. 1. What is it like to be a coast guard (reservist) 2. How is it transitioning from service to service 3. What kind of deployments do PS do? 4. Will I keep my pay grade? I was discharged honorably as an 0331 (Machine gunner) Sergeant. That's all I can think of right now. If you have any advice or answers please send them my way. Semperrrrrrrrrrrrrrr |

There soon will be no PS's in the CGR. They're being lateraled to ME's or other ratings.
You'd most likely come in as E-4 not E-5, depending on the needs of the service. Contact a RESERVE recruiter. |

Best Answer Contact USCG Recruiter.
I am at the PSU in Cape Cod and am former USMC 0331 got out as an E5 and came in the CG as E4. Depending on rate and work ethic it should not take long for you to make rank. the Rate you choose is big in the CG and you want to ask around and make sure your doing what you want to do and it fits with what the CG needs. I would suggest coming to the PSU on the cape during a drill wkend. Ask the recruiter about that. Be aware the recruiting process for the CG reserves is not the same as the USMC much slower and you need to be persistant. You will have to show you want it again not a problem for a Marine Port Security Units which is probably what your talking about do deployments but its all up to the needs of the service I am sure you have heard that before.
