The Reservist magazine has posted the information that may be of interest to your rating. Trivia for those being advanced to PSC.
In 1979 a contest was held to design a new PS & FI specialty mark. Prototypes were approved in 1980 and by the mid 1983 the new rating badges were being worn.
Since the 1950s, the Warrant Port Security Specialist had worn the BOSN fouled anchors, with a qual code for Port Security. By 1984 a new mark was being developed for the PSS

The second bet, since the artwork and embroidery pattern is paid for, just change the lettering. Frugal. The PS,FI & IV are the last original, CG specific, specialty marks the CG has created. Prior to that, the MST, PA, FS, & ASM are the only other CG originals.

A couple of pieces of trivia as your rating gets ready to wrap up a long tour. Have a little heartburn with the wording of the caption describing PSU 303.
Parts are replaced. Crews are relieved.
Other than that, someone might like to keep track of that piece of trivia before it's lost.

Never did quite get it straight. When formed up at Camp Blanding, FL we were PSU 1, then we got to be PSU 303 - which I've seen differentiated as PSU 303A (original CGRESGRU Milwaukee crew) and PSU 303B (the replacements).
Hey, tip_, we were just "relieved" to be "replaced" by you folks!
BTW, RDML Day (PSU-303A) was around last weekend, and his West Coast counterpart, RDML Seward (PSU-303B) was mentioned a number of times during several conversations.
