I'll actully be heading to bootcamp in january with guaranteed PS A school. Will my chances of getting into PSU 307 be higher then? How hard is it to get into the unit that you want?
Not to keep rambling on, but what are the qualifications? And has anybody else driven 4 hours just to be in the job they want? I think it will be worth it, but gas prices will be killing me. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks for the info

I drove over 5 hours monthly from Chicago to Port Clinton, OH for a year to be a member of PSU-302 (now -309) in 1994.
There were six of us from Chi-town, and we teamed up to drive to relieve the burden on each of us.
Really think about the 4 hour drive. REALLY! Try it for the next couple of weeks. Get up, drive your car for four hours, then turn around and drive back. Do it a few times. It's not as easy as it sounds.
I commuted from SF to LA for a year. It eats up your time and will negate your pay since the costs of POL are getting worse each day.
I used to drive yearly from SC to Philadelphia, and I once drove from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. I currently drive 5.5 hours home when I cn get off work and school to do so. I also go visit my family in the Florida key several times a year, and that is an 8-9 hour trip. I am willing to drive a little to do something I really want to do. However gas prices mean I will be taking my motorcycle. What is your opinion on being able to fit everything I need on a bike (uniforms etc). Thanks to everyone for the information, I will be trying to get into the PSU in St. Petersburg. I guess that is really up to my recruiter. I am FINALLY going to meps tom after having to clear up some paperwork, so I am on my way.
You won't be able to fit everything on your bike. You will have to leave your gear in a locker at the unit or drive a car and bring your gear each drill.
Commuting to your unit especially the PSU's are a new fact of life in the CGR. The select and direct has been going on for a while now and guys who live in the San Diego area have been selected and directed to the PSU in LA. They are desperate for folks so within reasonable commuiting distance is a thing of the past. The higher you go up the more of a chance you will have to commute. Everytime there is a PSU deployment folks will be selected and directed to the unit. Its a fact of life!
PSU 307 is probably your best bet. We have people at our PSU (located in VA) come from MD, NC, GA, AZ, and NJ! I live in VA and it takes me 3 hours to get there! Don't worry, I love the unit so I don't mind the drive.
