Basic Training

I am 17 years old and approaching my last year of high school. It is my life's dream to become a Navy SEAL, but I am unable to meet the physical requirements as of yet...

Right now, I can barely do a single pull-up and I can do about 20 push ups (slowly). I really need to work on my upper body strength, but I'm not really sure how, and I can't afford to get any real professional help. Any pointers?

I can manage about 45 sit-ups in a minute, but then I bottom out to around 60-70 at the two minute mark. I really want to reach 100... how can I improve this?

Lastly, I'm not exactly sound on running. I can run. I'm fine with running. I just can't run fast. My mile is from 9-10 minutes, and I power walk the corners. Is there any good way to condition myself to where I can pull off running/jogging *without* stopping, and to reduce my time?

I know that conditioning myself to be able to manage SEAL training will take a LOT of effort... but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill my dreams.

Can anyone help?

Do you realize how far you are from meeting the Basic Army standard, never mind the Seal Standard. You must run 2 miles in a little less than 16 minutes or an 8 minute mile. 43 push-ups and 58 sit-ups are also minimums.

The Navy is 1.5 miles in 12:30 minutes, 42 push-ups and 50 curl-ups plus the swin. You need to get past this just to make it through boot camp. You are not there except sit-ups.

Pointers - more work. The Seals require 6 pull-ups, 11 minutes for the 1.5 mile run, 50 site-ups and 52 push-ups plus 500 yard swim in 12:30. That is PST screening. It gets harder.

Here is a link. http://www.navyseals.com/physical-screening-tests

At this point you need to work 6 days a week. Harder, longer. Push. If not you will not make it through Boot Camp never mind get into Buds.

A old sailor here remembers the PT and for this little guy it was hell. You can not do enough to prepare. I wish you luck.

Thank you for your advice. As I have said, I am willing to put everything into my conditioning, for I am determined. Endurance, endurance, endurance!
