Hey Shipmates...check out this Website.. I found it over on the U.S. Army History Thread.

XXX…http://www.usarmygermany.com/…XXX

Enter the website, then scroll down the links of the left till you come to:

Rhine River Patrol (its near the bottom)

Enjoy if you so desire.... There's a neat picture under "Exercise
HARVEST".. It shows back when Chiefs still wore dungarees while working and you only
knew they were a CPO by the "Hat"... I guess back then was when Chiefs
"Really Worked"... Huh?????

I was just thinking about chiefs in dungarees today on my ride home. Now that the Navy is headed to the BDU route there is not going to be anything that distinguishes a chief from any other paygrade from a distance.

That was an interesting article and as a Swift Boat sailor they were sort of forerunner of out patrols. Westpac Willie

I did in more ways than you can know. I was an Army Brat and in Germany from Sept 55 to Dec 28 1958. Your thread allowed me to look up some of the places I was at. I was in Aschaffenburg, bused to Hanau 56-57, and Soph year started at Baumholder. Back then there were more bombed out buildings than rebuilt ones. Played youth Baseball all over Germany and I saw he Harlem Globe Trotters in Berlin in 57 I still have the tickets with Ab Sperstiens autograph. I thank you again for the thread. Westpac Willie. PS Being raised around the Army made me know that I wanted to be in the Navy. Crossed the Atlantic over and back on the same MSTS ship Gen Maruice Rose.

Tried to get one of those patrols out of Sonar school in 55. Choice duty, but dangerous on Mine sweepers.
