I believe there's 1 assigned to TRACEN Cape May as well.

I was invited to go to a performance at The Cerritos Center in Cerritos. They were more than professional. My friend whs with me and said 'they outdo Benny Goodman' When the Coast Guard song started the audience was on it's feet. Stomping and clapping. I've never forgotten it. Maybe it is a recruiting tool but on the other hand they sure do draw a crowd

there is a MUC at TRACEN Cape May, Chief Buggs. He's in charge of ceremonial.

Chief Buggs is still in Cape May?? Holy sheep cac-ca. He was a MU1 when I went threw boot back in 1997

He was an MU1 when I went through in '93!!!
I disticntly remember after getting trouble on the main Quarterdeck, Chief Buggs playing "If I only had a brain" from the Wizard of Oz.

The USCG Band is 55 total.
1 CDR is the director
1 CWO is the asst
53 enlisted
there is one singer.
we also have 2 sound techs, and 1 finance person...but they all can play in the band if needed.
Chief Buggs is the only MU not in New London, CT

Actually, Chief Buggs is no longer in Cape May. I am the new MU here at TRACEN and have been for the past 8 months.

That's becuase it is not a rate. It is a rating, made up of mostly 4 rates, MU1, MUC, MUCS and MUCM.

Interesting! No MU 2's or 3's?

People coming into the band from the street come in as E-6s.

I believe (and Chief can correct me if I am wrong) that if you are already in the CG, and apply and make it into the band, you retain your paygrade, or get a bumpo to E-4 if below that.

Chief Buggs was one of my CC's back in 93. A very rememberable man indeed.
