I have acquired a patch that is supposedly from Vietnam, it is a narrow shield with a gold border, the background is dark blue and it is an eagles leg clinging on to 2 lightning bolts..

anyone know which unit this is?

That would be the Army Security Agency (crest shown to the left) valid through 1977.

Yes and they ran the Intelligence school at Fort Devens, MA back then too
