Alex and all the other younger Brothers and even our Sisters as well. Sometimes this place seems like "older guy ville" where we're simply hashing and rehashing the same material without our more diverse colorful perspectives. Seems even many of our older folks have gone as well.

So what do you propose should be the next step? What can be done to bring a little life back to these "older guy ville" forums while still keeping the forum in line with the Military.com User Agreement? All suggestions are welcome. Ok... let me have it. But be prepared to recommend a solution to go along with the perceived problem. Yeap... I like those too... and here are the basic rules on those: 1. NO copyrighted material - if you don't own the rights to the picture yourself, it's thin ice. However, because many images are public domain, just make sure that they don't have copyright marks or otherwise indicate particular ownership (like a website name). 2. The picture CANNOT show body parts that would be normally covered by a bikini. Other than that, post to your heart's contentment. Although I would venture to say that it's not so much the heart as it is the libido. Just try to exercise some good common sense and discretion. Remember that kids and adults alike visit these forums. From young people looking for info and advice on getting into the Military; as well as high-ranking members who just may be your bosses. If you keep these facts in mind, it's good to go! "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant." - Oscar Wilde |

Rob: I appreciate the response and the pics might be a good thing, but really as one of the smart-azzes around here, I was really kidding...

See thru would be "covered." I think the problem might be that some topics were over done and people got tired of seeing the same old thing day after day. I am not pointing fingers. Just that everything can be done so much before it becomes tiresome. I think the word is the diversification of topics. And not in the political sense. A little of this, a little of that. Some political, some humor, some of everything. |

I know... but thought it may be good to put it out anyways. You'ld be surprised how much good decor brightens up a place. "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant." - Oscar Wilde |

I agree. And so do some members of the Moderator Team. We have discussed this at great length and we're trying to get ourselves back to basics. This means a more "hands off" approach to the MODF unless and until a well defined violation of the Military.com User Agreement presents itself and requires Moderator action. After all, our mission is to preside over the forums and keep the users within reasonable and/or proper limits as they apply to the particular discussion in accordance to the Military.com User Agreement. We are also members of Military.com; so like everyone else we retain the right to express ourselves, but with one great big caveat. While it is OK for a moderator to point out their views we must remember that we are setting the tone and example for everyone else. We must not allow ourselves to turn our rights and privileges towards our own purposes and use the forums as a platform for our views to try and influence others... but I digress. Bottom line is that this is an "OPEN DISCUSSION" forum. It should be a little of this and that (as you point out). I want to see it get there once more. My only concern is to keep my bosses happy by keeping the environment in line with the Military.com User Agreement. I probably sound like a broken record, but the Military.com User Agreement is that important. This place is gone to "shiat in a handbasket. I lurk every now and then, but as far as posting? Not! (Except for this one-time-of-late post)

I hear it... and I would like to reiterate: by all means, identify whatever the negative issue is (from your perspective), and suggest something that would address it. Telling me it's "gone to shiat in a handbasket" is an awfully broad term. If you decide to do one more "one-time-of-late post", I would like to ask: Can you be more specific as to how it has gone to shiat and how you propose it can be restored while staying within the parameters set in the Military.com User Agreement? And by the way... if you don't feel like posting perhaps you would like to discuss it over a cold beer. If you're anywhere near Lejeune, give me a shout. We can have a beer summit. Rob, quite actually moving the politics out of MODF is a great start. For awhile there was too much bashing instead of intelligent discussion so this will help relieve a lot of friction.
Brutal honestly? I posted a lot of threads on veteran's issues, war policies and even generalized war strategies to try and draw out more diverse ideas and opinions based on our wide variety of Marine skill sets here. I even attempted to try something different by getting highly specific with naval gunfire support and it received no hits. So I dropped a few highly controversial bombs in here just to shake things up so we would stop coming off sounding so right wing conservative and it actually worked to a point. I even took a really good Marine to task in front of everyone to try and show how needless bashing negatively affects us all and she rogered up like the Super Trooper she is but many still didn't get the point of the exercise. I firmly believe we're all getting older and more set in our ways and our posts reflect this no matter how much we try and deny it even to ourselves. Needless to say the only things that are going to change us is an infusion of newer younger Marines who have recent experience and how we treat them. Until we actually listen when they address their feelings and emotions on what they've experienced instead of coming at them with all the political bashing then we're going to stay exactly as we are. You Mods are making good starts and I applaud your efforts. |

The Trouble Maker! Hello!! My name is Laura and I'm addicted to the MODF. |
Thank you!
Took me awhile to log on. Had to try a combination of passwords... it's been a long time and I'm getting older so I forget things. Hope you're all doing well. As our birthday comes closer I was remembering this place and thought I'd stop by. |

The Trouble Maker! Hello!! My name is Laura and I'm addicted to the MODF. |
I was over on the SB for awhile and then we all migrated over to the EGA. So yeah... been on the EGA but .... sit down because this may shock you.... I rarely post anywhere these days!
Every once in awhile on a slow day I'll go in there and post away. |
