I think it's an honor and he is definitely wearing it as such. He obviously isn't trying to claim the title as he seems to have his brother's initials below the EGA.
Good kid, in college, involved in scholastic sports, respects his family and respects the service of Marines. He is a kid that did not realize what the EGA means to a Marine. If he did maybe he would have found a better way. He means no disrespect but the total opposite.
I had a problem with it ! The first time I noticed it was when Iowa beat Michigan State, the Marine Corps emblem gave them an unfair advantage. To add insult to injury I thought they might think the kid was an airwinger.
I have no problem with it as long as he isn't claiming to be a Marine. I can see where he might have a problem if he should decide to join the Corps, when he first enters boot camp. Even then I think he would be OK after the Drill Instructors learned the why of it.
As to the Hair cut reminding anyone of a winger. All I can say is not when I was in.
