WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Senators on Friday weren't able to muster enough support to bring dueling war-funding bills to a final vote, possibly ending debate on the issue until next year.
The Democratic plan would have provided $50 billion in supplemental funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- mostly for Iraq -- with the condition that troops start being pulled from the country within 30 days.
The GOP plan would have provided $70 billion in supplemental war funding with no restrictions. The procedural vote was 45-53, 15 votes under the number needed to advance the bill.
The vote on the Democratic plan was 53-45, or seven short of advancing.
The Democratic leadership said Thursday that the current bill would be the only one they would vote on before the end of the year.
Translation: Troops are out of luck. Their safety has to play 2nd fiddle to Democrat politics.
Democrats control the vote. The GOP funding for troops is better and the Dem. plan has a deal-breaker, terrorist supporting, mandatory cut-and-run provision that makes their bill a non-starter. They know that and know that there will be no funding. I guess the military will just have to remember Dems at the polls and the fact that their safety has been put behind their partisan agenda.
I see no nor hear no Democrat voters outraged, so it must be okay with...the DEMS... Progressives/Liberals/Independents or whatever they call themselves.
No wonder the insurgents fled Iraq, they can't count on the Dems to provide meaningful support, just lip service. The defeatocrats can't wait to surrender...
Lets be fair. It takes 60 votes to get anything through the senate these days and 67 votes to override a presidential veto. Both sides are responsible for the grid lock and no one will give in. This vote also demonstrates that a few repubicans are now in the democrate camp on this issue and more may follow.
I think that both sides and the president need to cut out the crap and get some legislation passed for the American people and the troops.
I'm pretty sure I prefer the republican's 70 billion without timelines versus the democrat's 50 billion with timelines. Which plan do you think would have benefited the military? Only one of these two plans is for victory.

I would reckon the "Dems" are brushing off the S.E. Asian playbook, circa 1974-1976 for plans how to win.

The Democraps cannot afford to have Us win the War on Terror because it would mean that President bush was right and they could not live with that. Rush Limbaugh says that Democrats own Defeat and I think He is right. So now they play Politics with the Lives of Our Service Men and Women by trying to deny funds unless they get their way. Why anyone would vote for a Democrap is beyond Me.
