So I just graduated bootcamp today in fact and I have a question on what to do in regards to an injury i havent had looked at yet. on the Crucible i screwed up a rib on my right side, not sure what the hell is wrong all i know is it hurts all the time and likes to pop in a really weird way. I didnt think much of it at first however its not getting better. while on my 10 days leave should i go to a VA hospital or what should i do? i plan on visiting my recruiter when i get home and can ask him, however if anyone has any info/ideas i would appreciate it, with how bad it hurts at times im not sure how well MCT is going to go if i dont do something about it. and im not sure if i should wait until i get back for MCT or take care of it now. thanks much.
I am not a medical expert by any means but I don't see how a rib could be popping in and out like a dislocated shoulder. It might be a pulled ribcage muscle or something similar.
Whether or not you go to a VA hospital, you should not have to pay for anything as you sustained this injury during active duty training for the Marine Corps. Get in touch with your recruiter and he should be willing to direct you further. If you get to MCT with this injury and are unable to train you will be stuck in some admin limbo unit and it is going to blow big time.
yea im going to definitely have to get it looked at asap, after i fly back home this weekend i will call my recruiter, im just worried, hopefully itss not all too serious, granted i made it through the last 10 mile hike and the Reaper with the problem so it isnt real serious but man it hurts like a son of a gun.

I'm not a Dr, but I have stayed at a Holliday Inn Express! Sounds like a busted rib, or two. Hurts like a mutherfacker when you inhale, and don't even think about caughing?
Hate to tell you this, but they won't do zhit for it. After 10 days it should be better, and just tender as hell.
As for the treatment options. If there is a military base nearby, then just go to their medical. If not any hospital and tell them you are covered by Tri-Care. They will need your ID Card.
Welome aboard, Marine and good job.

Oh , Suck it-up Cowboy ... quit your crying ....welcome to the Suck for the rest of your life to the brotherhood
Just do what JD and SSGT DeCurtis have advised you to do ...get it documented right now ...get to a Hospital ASAP ....you can go to any military installation that has a Hospital .
thanks for the advice everyone, i will definitely atleast get it documented, we have a VA hospital nearby back home besides that there isnt much in regards to any Naval hospitals or medical clinics.
I still dont know my MOS I went in as open contract. My orders from what I understand say im reporting to MCT not ITB so im nearly certain im not gonna be a 03. I i scored a 93 on the asvab so hopefully when they do give me an MOS it will be something decent.....then again who knows....i hate suspense...
It happened the 2nd last week of bootcamp during the crucible, and i wasnt going to spend the last week of bootcamp up at medical. thus i waited, however it doesnt hurt nearly as much right now so im thinking it may be wise to hold off and see how it feels once i get to MCT. my recruiter even suggested I wait. so now im not sure, most likely gonna wait, especially seeing they sent all of our medical/dental records directly to MCT all we took with us is our SRBs so if i went while back home im not sure how much they could do without my records.
thanks for the info though i really appreciate it.
Stil, have a doc at home, VA or not, they could get access to your Medical records. VA has all that on file and are connected thru their computer system and Military/SSN system. Besides, you said that you didn't really do any Medical in Boot, right? I'd just go to VA and check it out. There may be a chance that your school may not start right away and they have you sweeping the squad bays or some guard duty. Good Luck...S/F
