SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Terrorism suspects held at the Guantanamo Bay naval base will soon get swine flu vaccines, despite complaints that American civilians should have priority, a military spokesman said Sunday.

Army Maj. James Crabtree, a spokesman for the U.S. jail facility in southeast Cuba, said the doses should start arriving this month, with guards and then inmates scheduled for inoculations.

He acknowledged there may be an "emotional response" from critics who argue that terror suspects should not be allocated swine-flu medications while members of the U.S. public are still waiting due to a vaccine shortage.

But he said U.S. military officials are "responsible for the health and care of the detainee population."

Sure tells you where our citizens rate.

I thought these guys didn't fallunder the Geneva convention.

My pregnant daughter hasn't gotten the shot yet, because of the shortage. My wife and I haven't gotten it because of the shortage. But they are giving it to terrorists. Something wrong with this picture.

There is a certain poetic justice here though... They are getting the "swine" flu vaccine... They will be injected with the virus from a pig...

I wonder if they are being reminded of this at the time of the injection...

Is this how you defeat an enemy? This is assinine!

Why don't we just declare the WOT is over and we won?

This is just plain unbelievable! How does one win a war when fighting by your enemies rules?

Oh wait! Thay have no rules. We have. Remember that game we played as children, "Mother May I?" Are we supposed to ask, "Mother, may I shoot the guy shooting at me?"

BEGIN RANT!

Some of you on here want us to hold them...but, when tools are needed for the job...now you don't want the military to use them?

These detainees are more important than you...sorry.

Live with it.

You are a civilian. They are part of national security.

Deal with it and move on with your lives.

The last thing GTMO (and the US image abroad) needs is for one or more of these guys to die from H1N1 when the H1N1 vaccine was available.

In addition, the guards will get it. GTMO is not as closed as you may think it is...plenty of people come from the mainland every few days...and with it...potential vectors of infection.

You want them there-this is the cost of business.

DO you really want an outbreak of H1N1 in a place like GTMO-given an impending strategy in Afghanistan?

think about it.....if you do not want them to have it, you want more attacks on Americans abroad.

Basically, we don't need to fuel the terrorists with anti-US rhetoric...people died over cartoons...can you imagine something that really hurts people?

Lose the emotion and think big picture strategy.

if you need help with thinking strategically and beyond the box of your household, ask for the RISK game for Christmas...it might help.

rant off.

My daughter just called. She came back from the doc today and she said there still is no "shot" form for the vaccine. Her doctor said maybe another week.

Perhaps I should ship her off to GTMO, where it's available? Mad She's due in a month.

So, the radical Islamo-fascist will increase their activities if a GTMO detainee dies from swine flu?

Lose the emotion and think big picture strategy.

Big picture is Islamic moderates condone and fund the radicals. The nature of that religion is not peaceful and to dominate the Earth in the name of allah and exterminate anyone whom is not of the muslim faith.

That's the BIG picture. We can not be walking around on eggshells for fear of what may anger them. Our very existence angers them (people died over cartoons)...yeah, let's examine that, what the "F", over a cartoon...is that rational behavior?

By the same logic, Larry David (whom I think is a brillant comedian and writer) would be dead right now for p1$$ing on a portrait of Jesus in a recent episode in his HBO comedy series. You see we know it's comedy even though it is extremely disrespectful to Christianity.

I had/have no intention of turning this thread off topic, all but for the fact that if your reasoning for vaccinating detainees is so as to not anger radical islamist...I'm raising the BS flag high and visible and you may as well drop your cause and reason flag to half mast.

Wait, I'll compromise. You can vaccinate them as long as the administers of the vaccine are dressed (in Halloween tradition) in costume as either pigs or the cartoon character of muhammad.

rant off.

This is but one of the many reasons to vaccinate those at GTMO, but I will cede that it is not the SOLE reason.

No, it is not rational, but, we cannot control the enemy behavior. They have a say in strategy as well (their own strategy), whether we think it is rational or not.

Is this rational or not...

"Vaccinate 250 or so detainees and possibly head of problems or do nothing and hope it does not hurt them, then hope we do not have any backlash against our forces or Americans overseas".

I'd go with the 250 or so. The risk of American "outrage" clearly outweighs the potential of not doing anything and hoping for the best.

We bought their healthcare...just the bill of doing business.

So, we are going to ration the vaccine to US citizens and all GITMO prisoners get it? My daughter, who is high risk cannot get it but they can so we can appease the muslim extreme? No ****ing way.

Obviously most can see that the laws of sanity are being turned wrong side out, by this administration, sanctioning the giving of preferential treatment to these slime-balls over our own citizens.

We live in a time where common sense is literally being turned upside down, so that the politicians and the powers that be can force all to kneel to the most powerful religion of our time: Political Correctness.”

The saddest thing is that we are hearing even in this forum members defending the insanity.

I think it should be mandatory that they are aware that the vaccine comes from a 'pig'.
If they are, I bet you have to strap em down to administer it.
TP is right. What was wrong is now right, and what is wrong is now right!
That's the change!?! Right! and /or Wrong!? I am confused.
Oh well....can't help it. Right?

Mixed signals
quote:
Guantanamo Bay detainees will be receiving the H1N1 vaccine, the Pentagon confirmed Tuesday, even though White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said minutes earlier that the vaccine is not "on the way."

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said the vaccine should be at the naval base on Cuba by the end of November.

"The department has an obligation to care for persons in its custody and we take that seriously," Whitman told Fox News. "There is a limited supply of this vaccine so we have prioritized our population."

Whitman said the vaccine would go first to deployed forces, then active duty, then health care workers, then detainees and then contractors who are not with the Department of Defense.

Your right Moouse! Anyone who could discover the Owl on the One Dollar Bill should be listened to.
Also, was it the conspiracy group that discovered the owl?
Also, (again) is the 'regular schedule' back to the sweat lodge to smoke 'em? Just wondering.

This was Michael Moore's thesis about GW Bush and our own Citizens in his movie titled "Sicko". You should watch it....detainee care trancends politics and administrations.

quote:
We live in a time where common sense is literally being turned upside down,

isn't that the nature of the military?

While I understand the reasoning of the DoD, I do not agree with it.

I know firsthand how the detainees are treated there medically. I had to wait for an X-ray I never got, but some of those detainees get superior medical care and always have. I even had to call medics for detainees from time to time.

From my perspective, this is nothing new, as I am conditioned to hear decisions like this and I am also shaped by my experiences such as medical care for detainees. While I did not treat detainees medically, I was a first responder for them since they could not just pick up a phone and call for the "doc". I was the "911" and the "police", for both emergency and routine care.

My lens on life is shaped differently regarding detainee health care issues.

I say blame your state, not the federal gov for prioritizing populations to get the vaccine.

I refuse to act with thought of radical islamist potential irrational behavior as a guide in my decision process. They are going to do whatever they are going to do.

Is this rational or not...

"Vaccinate 250 or so detainees and possibly head of problems or do nothing and hope it does not hurt them, then hope we do not have any backlash against our forces or Americans overseas".

quote:
This is news to me, are they sitting idle right now in a cease fire and establishing the terms of their surrender...OR are they indeed attacking our forces everyday? What is this backlash you speak of?

So, you identify yourself as having perception so acute as to be capable of discerning a regular attack endangering the lives of our forces and a "backlash" attack brought on by an irrational mindset and endstate of the world conquered in the name of allah, aggrevated by the lack of caring for detainees better than we care for our own citizens

So how do they differ?

I'd go with the 250 or so. The risk of American "outrage" clearly outweighs the potential of not doing anything and hoping for the best.

quote:
Because we wouldn't want to anger someone whom is radical, extreme and prone to violence without provocation.

We bought their healthcare...just the bill of doing business.

quote:
And this is why we have an MODF.

My mindset is that not one citizen in the U.S. (legal citizen) should go hungry, unclothed or medically neglected before any citizen of any other country receives aid from our government. There are hundreds of charities for that.

I consider this topic to be within those rules.

I agree with the correctional officers here in Massachusetts receiving the vaccine, but prison populations before the citizens, I do not.

Yes, I do realize the increased potential of widespread infection within prison environments, however, most put themselves there by denying or infringing on the rights of others. Therefore, a segment of their punishment is having their rights and privleges reduced.

Oh no, the "Bama administration owns this, the Federal Government is the first responder here.
They took this on and claimed ownership, so they could then claim success if a crisis was prevented.

Well they screwed the pooch on this one.

This is not "Katrina" where they were offered help and refused, the state was the first responder there and botched it.

The state governments are not refusing help.

Now in fairness, from what I understand the majority of the vaccine is not be produced in the U.S., so relying on foriegn manufacturers was probably not so good, especially when the issue of homeland security is thrown in.

Imagine if you were an islamo-facist and wanted to do the most damage to U.S.
