Search www.usajobs.gov

There is a huge section for veterans.

Remember an entry level GS-5 job is a job, needs to be done, and offers good benefits.

Look for jobs that you even think you might not have a chance in getting like Park Ranger, etc...

You never know...veterans preferance helps.

Join the MCL and Geico gives you a 15% discount on insurance.

For me thats $300.00+ a year for a $25.00 mrmbersip.

If you qualify use the base gym instead of the gym out in town. Over $600.00 a year savings for me.

Thanks guys,

Suggestion I have- which many will know already is: hit those second hand shops for odds and ends.

I have a trip coming up bought some nice (made in USA) camera cases- and a brief case for my laptop for less then *ten dollars.

Some may want to check them out and sell the items on Craigs list etc...?

I buy a lot of my work & bush walking clothes there also (as they get trashed real fast)

Lots of neat stuff in them (and I hate shopping)..

- Bulletin boards in Librarys are sometimes a good help for community services and such.

The Sunday newspaper. $20.00 worth of coupons a week in there every Sunday (easy) That's over $1000.00 a year off your grocery bill.

I agree here, I had a very well off relation who would always check the newspaper for coupons....she lived through the depression and times were very tight in a large family- she never forgot that, and would not waste money just because she could.

Most part stores offer military discounts (10%)if you ask, and don't care if you are active or not.

Lowes offers a year round 10% discount that they do advertise. Just show government military ID and ask about a military discount.

I learned that once when buying for the Wenches place. Sure helps on large items.

Semper Fi

Craig's list is great place for everything from permanent/part time jobs, purchases, rentals, trades and services offered. Since everything listed is from the person directly offering, you can get great deals and can even barter at times.

They list by county and then the search is narrowed down by city/local area. It's probably one of the best sources on the internet.

Bartering:

I am a electrician. When my buddy (mechanic) added on to his shop I pulled the wire for free.

Now he changes the oil in both my vehicles for free.

Don't buy a new car, unless it is with cash. A used car is all you need to get on you feet.

On the electric bill, go through the house and shut off some of those items you are not using eg printers, games, dvd players and such.

A good walk throught the area where you reside and you will be surprised at all the items that are left on and/or charging...it all adds up.

My advice for those looking for a job is to apply for anything and everything you might be remotely qualified for. If anyone needs any help with KSAs or resumes, email me at hulinmr2002 at yahoo dot com. I'd be happy to help if I could.

Hi, I would love to get at federal job. And my dream job would be on a Marine Corp base working as a civilian. I was a service record book clerk and cross-trained as a unit diary clerk when I was in the Corp. I miss the whole military atmosphere and would love to be surrounded by it. I also have a Patient Registration Certificate. If anyone has any information that would lead to a job that would be great. I live in Michigan an am working as a Leasing Agent at an apartment community. I have a daughter in the Air Force stationed in Georgia and a daughter who attends college in Florida so to be closer to them would be great!
