We have had a discussion about this in the past. At that time members said they wanted "open" to be "open" and to leave it up to members where to post.

We have had that discussion again recently and the outcome was not so clear.

So, beginning today, we are going to be asking members to post political posts in one of two places. There are some general guidelines we will be following.
  • We will not be moving all existing posts to the political forum. Those posts will be allowed to fall to the bottom and be purged like any other post
  • However, if old posts continue to be debated, they will be moved to the political forum.
  • Some posts might be appropriate in either area. Posts with Marine, military, national security, wars, terrorism, and similar content, that are kept non-political, can still be posted in the open forum. If they become too political, they will be moved to the political forum.
We may revisit this in the future and see which way members prefer but for now we ask members to make their political posts in the Political Forum.

If you see one of your political posts removed, look there before you assume it was deleted. Wink

Great ideas all the way around. I especially like the way we're keeping general info here such as the many diverse written articles we post on veteran's issues, war updates and military policies.

I'll do my part in posting controversial political and social thought in the appropriate forums as well. After all, fair is fair.

Great job in reducing friction with forward thinking. But then again you're Marines so giving your best is always a given. Thanks and good looking out to help our Forums.

My two cents...

From my experience the Active Duty folks do not like political threads either unless they are about to ETS or otherwise have nothing to lose. They still respect former rank that Veterans held and retired rank. It's one reason why when a retired Marine LTC or Army MAJ posts in the Army Forums....not a lot of folks respond. CiderAlpha33 special case because she is a RN and posts a lot, encourages feedback.

I noticed with PipedreamsandBabies because of the Oak Leaf Cluster in her profile when she posts in the Army Forums the other enlisted and junior officer posters kind of shy away.

A lot of times in our Mod Discussions Kurt (retired MSG) would get a professional and curt response from a Active Duty Mod. I'd send a Email and the response was a lot more entertaining or colorful to say the least(lol). I did mention this to Kurt and it was a surprise and he forgot about that from his time on Active Duty.

So in a public forum and semi-public forums the words are measured and edited out of respect in a lot of cases for past service or retired service, especially if the rank is higher then that held by the Active Duty folks. So I thought I would mention this as a reminder. Some of the folks here may have their time of service a ways back in the past and might have forgotten this. I know I did until I saw it happening when we had Active Duty Army Mods.

So just a FYI

Naw Tommy, LHO is definitely not political but rather conspiracy to conspire a conspiracy to prepare to conspire a conspiracy. Wink

Ha-ha-ha-ha,

There should be more of that here, the Forum is too tame these days.

What happened to the days when JD would put a label on a poster "Too Stupid to Care" and send them over to the Army Forums.

Where is Betiostripe? (lol).
