Maybe I am making too much of this but the below email I sent to my childs teacher will explain.

Mrs. Lxxxxx,
I am sending this to you because I am very upset at what my daughter told me last evening. It was all quite innocent in the telling, but it disturbed me non-the-less. She said that you told her not to use the "H" word, meaning Halloween. That it will get the other kids too excited. I am disappointed and this PC garbage has got to stop. My daughter has the right to use any word she wants to (barring curse words), at any time she wants to and I will support her in that. Even at 7 she has the right to free speech. She has also been told that if she "desires" to say Happy Halloween to her classmates, she is perfectly allowed to and I will back her up 100%. So, if there are any repercussions because of what I told my daughter, than it falls on me. You are free to contact me at anytime during the day via email or on my cell XXX-XXX-XXXX.

I have gone along with this determination of the administration to eliminate ALL sweets and treats for the kids, loss of the cherished Halloween Parade every year and other things that have been eliminated from our school over the years. I guess I shouldn't have gone back to work full-time so I could stay in the school and involved with the PTO, my mistake.

For about 50+ years, my elementary school's mascot was the Mary Daly “Devils”. It was recently changed to the "Knights" because "Devils" was politically incorrect, and apparently, blasphemous.

Other rules:
~No running on the black top.
~No tag.
~No parallel bars.
~No monkey bars.
~No dodge ball.
~No jumping/launching off the swings.
~No gymnastics.
~No dunk booth at the spring fair.
~No Moon Bounce at the spring fair.
~No Christmas tree, its a holiday tree.
~No displays of traditional, not religious, Christmas decorations.
~No saying Happy Halloween or Merry Christmas.
~No Halloween parades at school or costumes.
~Cake, cupcakes or other sweets are discoraged this year for birthday celebrations and will NOT be allowed next year.
~No Candy of anykind, sugar-free included, will be given to kids as a reward.
~No Fundraisers that involve foods that don't meet the Principals personal opinion or approval.

We are basically raising a generation of fun zombies.

Not me. I took the stand you are taking now about three years ago.I did the same thing you did but my letter went the the principal as well as the PTO. Basically stated they could pound sand if they wanted me to thrash my daughter for running on the playground. I am still awaiting a response to my email. I copied the Principal also, so I CAN'T WAIT to here what she has to say.

Its funny, she has never had kids, but they allow her to be a Principal at an Elementary school. There should be a law.

Just another list of reasons for me to move out of this God-forsaken state (excuse me, Commonwealth). That list seems to be getting bigger all the time.

One surely has to live in Pennsylvania to truly experience the BS. Maybe we can all move into Hulin's house in Mississippi. I'm sure she has the room and won't mind.

Actually, Melissa, we have relatives in Jackson. My wife's cousin is a professor at MSU. I'm sure you know the area.

i can't see anything in shaw's list that i DIDN'T do in my schools.
my hardest 'sport' was 'commando basketball'. it was full football on a basketball court with scoring a basket...as you were being tackled. OMG, we got dinged up...no pads.
we only played that in middle(intermediate) school. we were close to the same size then...

Are you able to attend and speak at a meeting of the school board? Ask them why they have not yet named the school "Lenin's elementary".

What does the principal want them to eat at birthday parties? Bread and water? Fuggin hardtack?

If a list of repressive rules like that doesn't drive you to some kind of activism, give it some more thought.

Isn't School for learning, what do these activities have to do with an Education?
I have no problem of costumes and Halloween outside of school or work, but not at work time or school time.

My son goes to a public school and when I got wind that they may take the Pledge of Allegiance out I flipped out on my sons vice Principle basically calling him a puzzy if this even becomes an issue.WE CANNOT PLEASE EVERYONE BUT WE SURE SHOULD PLEASE THE AMERICAN WAY.
