I'm wondering that myself. I posted this on the Army site, because of the location. Someone posted another link and it said there may be 3 shooters involved. It's doubtful this is some disgruntled person going postal. Looks more like a conspiracy of some sort. Who knows the motive. But it's early. The media often gets things wrong in the first few minutes. Welcome back by the way. Someone was just asking about you. |

damn, I might need an IBA to go to work now...speaking from a security POV, I bet someone gets relieved....a star or two may fall.
for all of the wannabe's that read this...don't ever question your NCO's/squad leaders about accountability. In situtations like this...they will need to know where you are at all times...get to the fleet and you will understand. |

CNN is also saying one of the gunmen is dead but 2 others are in custody.

I have been through an Soldier Readiness Center before...alot of soldiers in one place, tightly compacted.
From an enemy point of view, it is a gold mine for casualties/deaths. |

The FBI is saying they don't believe terrorism is involved.
But in some ways, it would be more tolerable if it was terrorism. We expect that. We don't expect our own servicemen to come unglued like this. It would be a larger tragedy if this was a stress related situation. CNN is saying... "3 suspects were U.S. soldiers, officer says" |

A General from Ft Hood said that the shooter had two handguns. That is a lot of people killed and wounded from handguns, isn't it?

Just read on Austins news all three shooters were soldiers. 1 dead, 2 in custody.

Well Pres. Obama didn't say much...he should have released more information to the American people, as he has pictures and profiles for sure.he came on with that sheet eatin grin look dems have... meanwhile 12 U.S. dead...I don't want to see a grin out of one person during times like this.
He started to mention something about Native Americans...don't know what that was all about |

He was at a conference for Native Americans and made comments regarding that prior to his brief on the incident at Ft Hood. I doubt we will see much until the details are really locked on. I wouldn't want it any other way. So much speculation and guessing is counter productive to the investigation. I can only imagine the immensity of investigating this and providing for the safety of a VERY LARGE community at Ft Hood. |

Thanks SFMac! The only thing I really got out of Obama's speach was that him and his team were gonna use this as leverage or tool for them. Other than that.. he a had slight grin his face to begin with...until he started talking about the 12 dead...then his tone changed. |

I just heard this as well. A spokesman from that area said they know the name of the shooter, and he's an officer and convert to Islam.

Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer. The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan. The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said. The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack. The general called the attack "a terrible tragedy, stunning." He said the community was "absolutely devastated." The extent of the injuries of victims "varies significantly," according to Cone. President Obama called the Fort Hood shootings a "horrific outburst of violence." "It if difficult enough to lose" soldiers overseas, but said it is "horrifying that they should lose their lives at an Army base in the U.S.," he said. The president said "my prayers are with the wounded and the families of the fallen." Cone said the motive for the attack, which took place just after 1:30 p.m. CT, is unclear. Fort Hood, located just 60 miles north from Austin, is the largest U.S. military installation in the world, and has suffered the greatest number of casualities of all American bases in the war on Iraq. |

The shooter has a muslim-sounding name...is this just a "man-caused" disaster? Who were the other two? I'll take a wild guess that they were muslims too. We're not even safe on our on bases anymore. So much for Obama's apologies and appeasement...

I live in Temple, TX; just outside of Ft. Hood. Close enough to have my sleep disturbed by live fire exercises.
The whole county (Bell County, TX)is in lock-down; schools, hospitals etc.. Even the VA hospital, just on the otherside of a fence from me, has increased armed patrols whizzing around. The concern is that, since there were at least three shooters involved and it was apparently well-organised, there might be more attacks planned by others. All the towns around here have deep community ties to Ft. Hood. Everyone knows someone there. Every neighborhood has military families living there. We rub shoulders every day in the stores and eateries with soldiers from Ft. Hood. This one's going to hurt. |
