You may have remembered this thread where I was looking for a Charles F. McElyea.

I was contacted this weekend by someone who said this may be his father's Marine recruit book. Sadly, he says (as we suspected of someone who loses track of their yearbook) that he passed away a few years ago.

I'm still in contact with him to see if it is his father's. Today he sent me a couple of photos of his father and asked me to see if it's the same person. I'm really bad at this and the photos he sent were kind of small. They look like they could be the same person, to me, but I might just be hoping too much.

You be the judge, are these all the same person. There are a number of years that have passed between the various photos. For instance the one on the right had his wife and 3 children but I have removed them from the photo, for comparison.

Do we have a match? I'm sure if I send the photo to Charles F. McElyea, Jr. his mother will be able to make a positive match but I won't know till tomorrow.

Tada! I just received a contact from the daughter of this Marine and she confirms that the center photo is the photo of her father.

So now I have found 2 children of this Marine.

Looks like this book is finally going home.

PS: The daughter says her husband is also a Marine and perhaps they will make an appearance here.

Yep, Thats my dad.
I remember seeing that particular picture when I was younger at my grandmothers house on her mantle.
Me and my dad looked alot alike.
That picture looks alot like me.

Thanks so much for holding on to that yearbook over the years.
If I may ask, How did you come into possesion of this yearbook?

Here are some pictures of me.
I am sure you guys can see the resemblance between my photo and my dads marine photo.

I get them from a lot of sources. Garage sales, ebay, wherever I find them. I don't recall this particular one but I have many dozens. There's just something about these books being discarded that bothers me. So I buy them when and wherever I find them.

I will contact you or your sister to make arrangements to return this book at no cost to you. Hope your family enjoys the book. And thanks to your father for his service to this country.

This is the first book I have ever been successful at returning to the family. But I'm still looking for others. Wink

I will. I have about 30-40 books right now. Just got another with a letter inside identifying the owner of the book.

I'll go through the ones I have to see if I have your series but the odds are short on me having it. There are a lot of books out there. Wink

Hi guys,
I received the book on Saturday.
Thanks so much Mike!!
As soon as I opened the book I knew right away it was my dads book. I know his handwriting very well.
I am going to take it to my Moms house on Thanksgiving and let my sister keep it for a while and then she can hand it off to my brother.
I really appreciate you doing this Mike.
Its a great thing to do.

Thanks again Mike!!

-Charles Mcelyea Jr.
