Why do many marines feel the need to be dicks to us army guys? I looked at a one topic where a guy who just joined the army was curious about the difference between marine and army infantry. He was treated like s***. Why is this?

Which forum? Which thead? If the guy just joined, why was he now asking the question? Seems he should have asked before. The answer to your question would depend on the context of the post and the fourm where it was posted. Provide that and you might get a better answer.

However, if he asked it in the Marine wannabe forum, it was a completely inappropriate question. Was that where it was asked?

Greetings,

I am an Army Infantry recruit who is interested in learning about some of the differencess in Army and Marine IN from some Marine Infantrymen.

Army guys in the Army disscussion board appear to respect Marine IN. One poster who is currently and Army Infantry claims to be a former Marine Infantryman. He mentioned that both services have their ups and downs. These ups and downs especially exist in the administrative/hierarchial areas. Another Army member metioned that those in the Army who switch to the Marines loose Rank: an Army e-6 becomes a Marine e-4 i.e.

I ship out to Ft Benning, GA on July 31st (DEP). Enlighten me.

-Medina

The question that was asked and received some crap. Granted it was in the Infantry forum and should have been asked else where. Maybe im wrong in saying many marines just seems to more hostility towards us.

This was completely because this was a wannabe asking a question in the Marine Infantry forum. That's all. It should be clear from the comments.

Chip on our shoulder?

For the record, it is Swagger! Even former Soldiers that joined the Marines had comments about the differences. It would behoove you to read some of the comments and what was actually said. Besides, he got the same treatment that a Marine Recruit would have gotten who was on his way to being a Boot.

You do understand that being a Marine is an Earned Title, and no one earns the title without first passing the qualifications to be a Marine.

Actually, I guess you could say that we are arseholes about that, and we are very proud of that reputation in deed!

It is Swagger!

When I was researching the various services while trying to get back in the reserves, I spent plenty of time in ALL of the mil.com forums, and all servicemembers universally think higher of their own service than another (that's why they joined it to begin with).

Moreover, whenever a wannabe opens up a debate as tired as the infamous "'what's-the-difference-between..." discussion, it almost always elicits negativity; either towards a service, in general, or towards the wannabe doing the asking (who feels the need to dig this up because he/she is apparently "search"-challenged).

I have no doubt that perhaps there WERE some Army folks who were civil about the Marine Corps. in the thread you referenced, but there are just as many more over there who are not (seen it myself) - just as there are folks HERE who are not. Not a negative reflection to me on the Army, the Marine Corps., or any service, but on the person making the statement. To each his own. But it's an individual trait - not a service-wide one.

Point being a I don't buy the goods that Army grunts are oh-so-tolerant of Marines, but we just happen to be the ones with the proverbial "chip," across the board - maybe in the two threads you happen to be comparing, but not in general. People are often very opinionated about their service, whichever one it may be; that's about the only accurate blanket statement about any service's personnel that I can realistically come up with.

Actually, I work for the Army (for now). They are a good lot, just different. Many of them I call friends.

First off, Im a die hard dallas cowboy fan. my screen name has nothing to do with washington.

I realize now i was quick to jump the gun i believe. I really havent spent much time over here for obvious reasons but its what i have heard several times.

Yes i completely understand having to earn your title. Im in the Infantry on my side(i know you will say yours is better) and if someone says their infantry just cause they are going to go to basic to try and be one, that hacks me off.

I believe now i was wrong. I do realize that there are jerks on all sides. For some reason i took what others said to be fact even though i had never experienced it myself. Guess yall arent so bad Wink I do think Marines overall are more proud to be a Marine than most army guys. If u just count us Army Infantry guys then thats a different story

I work with a few "dangling targets" (airborne with the Purple Hearts to prove it) all around good guys I'd trust with my back. They could be Marines if they could stop talking about stairs and walls and ceilings, they're that good. Cool

BTW ~

...after about 20 years or so, about every Grunt (most, not all) heals ..to better. It's simple math: they are outnumbered by a factor of 9:1.......... !!

As long as I can pick and choose, I'll junk out every 1 of 3 Grunts (I have known) to be replaced by the best one, of every nine pogues I have worked with---a couple of which are super grunts.

Wink

Yes, sir. The MC is smart. They keep Grunts scattered about for us pogues to mess to better.
