Im in the process of joining the Coast Guard. I am very interested in MSRT or the MSST. How would I become about doing that. Thanks for any information I can receive.
Talk about your desires with your recruiter and he or she can explain the proper career paths that you should go if that is what you want. There are more Boatswains Mates at the MSST's than any other rate. After that, we have a good amount of Gunners Mates and Machinery Technicians. Lately we are getting a lot of members straight from 'A' school, so the opportunity is there. I'm not sure where you are located, but perhaps there is a MSST nearby that your recruiter could show you.
Kevin; Don't expect that ratio to hold true for very long though. Those folks whose job does entail a majority of time spent doing their rating will most likely not be there after the upcoming new rating takes affect.
No, no template yet, but it is being worked on. You can get a preety good idea by asking your self this:
1) How many BMs are needed to operate the units small boats? 2) How many MKs are needed to repair all of the units small boats I/O engines? (hmmm, How many of your boats have I/O engines?) 3) How many GMs are needed to take care of 'GM Level' weapons maint & AA&E accountability? (It doesn't take a GM to clean a weapon)

Master Chief don't forget corpman how many of them does it take to bandage up your a$$ after the BM just fired off a stray round while cleaning a pistol.

1. Go to Blackhawk.com's website 2. Buy two of everything there 3. In your cubicle, hang every certificate you've earned since the 1st grade.
Now, now Scott. Don't be fretting cause you couldn't get into the CG "Teams". All those certs I had were earned through blood, sweat, and tears. Well, probably because they were mostly USMC certs!!! LOL.
Good to hear from you, Bull. I had a sneaky suspicion you would be the first to reply.... But I'm not fretting, I'm quite content being on my department's SWAT team.
